A Study Of Body Image In Chinese Sports Movies In The 1990s

This paper regards Chinese sports movies in the 1990 s as the research object.The body is the core image of the movie,and sports movie gives a lot of space to show characters’ body image shaping.In this way,the athlete image is the main character image that sports movie tries to create.Based on film texts and starting from the image presentation of the moving body,this paper aims to explore the way of shaping the body image,the relationship between the body and narrative,and the cultural connotation behind these body images in Chinese sports films of this period.This paper mainly adopts the method of literature research and close reading of texts to discuss the way of shaping the body in Chinese sports films of that period via audio-visual language and body narration,analyzing the cultural connotation of the body shown in them by combining the theories of feminism,consumerism and body discipline.Basically,this paper is divided into three chapters,which explain the methods,influences and significance of body image building in Chinese sports films in the1990 s from the aspects of image,narrative and culture.The first chapter focuses on the body image shaping in Chinese sports films in this decade and analyzes it from the aspect of audiovisual language by discussing photography techniques such as landscape and movement,visual elements such as clothing and props,as well as auditory elements such as sound production methods and detail design.The second chapter discusses the influence of different film types on the creation of sports films from the perspective of genre,and discusses the positive or negative effects of the body on the narrative in these film texts from the changes of the body situation and the relationship between the body and identity.The third chapter explores the cultural connotation behind the body image in the Chinese sports movies of this period,and presents the understanding and expression of the sportsmanship from different dimensions.Furthermore,the "gaze" theory and consumerism theory are combined in this part to analyze the meaning behind the body image,which together with its power relationship and the national metaphor constitute the internal meaning of the body image in the Chinese sports movies of this period.Body image in movies carries multiple values of image,narrative and culture.Sports is a process of constantly creating a "perfect" body,and sports movies project this course onto the screen.In the process of shaping the body image,Chinese sports movies not only use common or unique artistic techniques but also show the features in the political and cultural fields of the period.
