| Cultural heritage is the spiritual wealth left over from human history.Among the many communication channels for cultural heritage protection and popularization,books have the unique advantage as a medium that provides vivid record,preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage.Collective memory is an important part of human identity and an important way of forming collective identity.Applying the theory of collective memory reasonably in the design contributes to evoking long-held memories and innermost emotions.This thesis aims to explore the possibilities of innovation in the design of books primarily about cultural heritage,taking the collective memory as the theoretical basis and the Gushan in West Lake,a World Cultural Heritage site,as its object.Three aspects of memories: sounds,sights and people,are organized to form a rich and multi-dimensional perception of the Gushan.In this thesis,emotional mapping is applied to the design of cultural heritage books.The object is to design cultural heritage books that combine both humanity and popularity with multi-directional output of emotions,and to explore a book design model that facilitates the dissemination of cultural heritage.This thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the research background,significance and innovation of the selected topic.It also collates relevant research on collective memory theory and cultural heritage book design.Chapter 2provides an overview of the concept,content and methodology of "collective memory" theory and book design.Furthermore,it analyses the advantages of introducing "collective memory" theory into book design.Chapter 3 summarises the application of ’collective memory’ in the design of cultural heritage books by analysing existing successful cases.It further elaborates the benefits of the application of "collective memory" theory in the design of cultural heritage books.Chapter 4 is based on the theoretical research in the previous three chapters and presents the theory of ’collective memory’ into the practice of applying the design of the cultural heritage book The Gushan is Not Alone.Chapter 5 concludes the research practice of this thesis. |
