The German scholar Wolfgang Kubin is a world-renowned sinologist with remarkable achievements in sinology.Previous research on Gu Bin has focused on his research on modern and contemporary Chinese literature, with little attention paid to his learning experience and growth as a sinologist. In the context of the vigorous promotion of the "New Sinology Program" in international Chinese education,it is of great significance to study the growth experience of famous sinologists like Gu Bin.This paper mainly explores the internal motivation of Gu Bin’s sinology research,so as to consider the enlightenment of the case experience of sinologists to the cultivation of sinologists in international Chinese education."Emotional motivation" is the driving force for Gu Bin to enter sinology and continue to engage in sinology research.Chinese literature played an important role in the formation of Gu Bin’s "emotional motivation".The main manifestation is that during Gu Bin’s higher education,Chinese literature met his needs of "hoping to learn a discipline that can solve various problems of life",to some extent, solved his spiritual confusion, and enhanced his knowledge and understanding of himself and his own culture. On the basis of extensive reading,Gu Bin’s "close reading of texts" further enhances his emotional dialogue with literary works.Gu Bin’s "close reading of texts" is not an understanding of the simple meaning of words and grammars, but an exploration of the spiritual core behind the work combined with the background of literary history and philosophy, and a reflection on the current state of existence and survival issues. This kind of close reading of the text allows him to delve into the spiritual core behind the work and obtain spiritual satisfaction in the process of dialogue with the work.In addition to reading,Gu Bin has his own spiritual understanding in Chinese recitation, translation, and writing, and this spiritual feedback and nourishment further contributes to the emotional motivation of Gu Bin’s sinology research.Gu Bin’s experience in sinology enlightens us that in the cultivation of sinologists,we should pay attention to the spiritual needs of learners to "know themselves" and stimulate their internal motivation for sinology research. In teaching,it is necessary to carefully analyze and interpret the content of the text, and pay attention to the excavation of the spiritual core of literary works. It is necessary to pay attention to the emotional experience of learners in reading, and pay attention to the acquisition of learners’ spiritual level in reading and writing.
