Creative tendencies are a crucial component of creativity and have significant implications for one’s personal growth. They are also the fundamental traits that anyone who wants to be creative must possess.Family is one of the first environments that children are exposed to,and parenting style is a significant factor affecting the development of each individual’s creative tendency and sense of self-worth.Depending on the parenting style,a child’s creative tendency and sense of self-worth may be promoted or inhibited. In addition, young children’s self-esteem is a significant personality trait that influences their propensity for creativity. In order to better understand the association between parenting style and creative tendencies in children, this study incorporates self-esteem variables to the equation. In this study,688 parents of young children in B City,Hebei Province were chosen to participate in the data collection by questionnaire method. The data were then tested using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-tests,one-way ANOVAs,regression analyses, and the mediating effect model of Process plug-in in SPSS26.0.The main conclusions were the following:1.Children’s self-esteem and creative tendencies are typically at an upper medium level;authoritarian parenting methods are at a middle to lower level;inconsistent,laissez-faire,and overprotective parenting styles are all at a low level.2.Parenting styles range significantly depending on family roles, parental education, kind of employment, monthly family income, whether or not there are other children in the home, and factors such as kindergarten region, kindergarten setting, and kindergarten class;Children’s self-esteem varied significantly depending on the education level of the parents, the monthly family income, the gender of the children, the location of the kindergarten, the type of kindergarten, and the kindergarten class.Parents’ levels of education, the nature of their jobs, the location of their children’s kindergarten, and their parenting styles all significantly influence their creative tendencies.3.Coddling,laissez-faire,and inconsistency had a significant negative correlation with children’s creative tendencies but a non-significant positive correlation with children’s selfesteem.Democratic and authoritarian environments had a significant positive correlation with both children’s creative tendencies and self-esteem.Children’s creative tendencies can be negatively predicted by consistency, while children’s self-esteem and creative tendencies can be positively predicted by democracy and authoritarianism. However, the predictive effects of doting and laissez-faire on children’s creative tendencies and self-esteem have not yet reached a significant level. The creative talents of young children are positively predicted by their selfesteem.4.Children’s self-esteem plays a partial mediating role between democracy and children’s creative tendencies, and plays a major mediating role between authoritarianism and children’s creative tendencies. In light of the aforementioned findings, this study combines the information from eight parent interviews with the body of literature already in existence to discuss and explain them rationally, and it offers three recommendations: encouraging scientific parenting, nurturing children’s creative tendencies, and respecting and fostering the growth of children’s selfesteem in order to promote the harmonious development of children’s physical and mental health as well as the quality of their lives.
