| This article takes the missionary case negotiation after the Northeast Boxer Movement as the object, relying on archival historical data,to investigate the specific process and impact of local compensation negotiation with the church after the Northeast Boxer Movement. The stability of local order was the foundation of religious case negotiation.During the Boxer Movement, the Qing government’s foreign policy shifted from "main warfare" to "seeking peace",it took a severe attitude towards the rest of the boxing people and antireligious propaganda. Then the local authorities suppressed the remaining Boxer divisions and the antireligious movement.During this time, the Tsarist Russia used its identity of occupying the Northeast to forcefully intervene in local activities, exert pressure on the generals of the three provinces, and demanded that the rest of the Boxers be jointly suppressed. After the Boxer Movement, with the establishment of the principle of "local authorities handle it by themselves" of missionary cases, provinces began to negotiate with simultaneous interpreting missionaries. Before the formal opening of the meeting, the losses during the Boxer Movement were checked by local authorities in the northeastern provinces, after repeated consultations between the provinces and the church, the "Church Plan Charter" was finally signed.Different churches exhibit their own characteristics during the negotiation process.Protestant churches are more likely to make concessions in the negotiation of compensation issues than Catholic churches, while Catholic churches often submit claims that far exceed losses and are unwilling to make concessions, resulting in repeated and volatile negotiation. It is worth noting that after the signing of the "Church Plan and Charter",although it has made provisions in many aspects,it has not effectively resolved disputes, and conflicts between the people and the church are still ongoing.Local authorities have not fully complied with the provisions of the charter in their handling. In summary, the characteristics presented in the handling of the aftermath of the Northeast Boxer Movement missionary cases provide the possibility to perspective the region and overall aftermath of the Boxer Movement. |
