Research On Narrative Expression In Chinese Character Design

As a visual image symbol,Chinese characters,from the beginning of its formation to the present,the design of Chinese characters has been constantly changing along with the need for narrative,and narrative expression runs through the development of Chinese character design.The research trend of Chinese character design has gradually shifted from the internal exploration of Chinese characters to the interdisciplinary research from the outside to the inside,and the image value and narrative expression of Chinese characters are constantly being found.In this context,it is imperative to explore and study the law of Chinese character design by exploring the narrative expression of Chinese characters.As the carrier of the Chinese language,the Chinese characters have been carrying the cultural and national spirit for thousands of years.The communication between Chinese character design works and the audiences can help Chinese character design works to better deliver affections.In this regard,with the help of narratology,Chinese character semiotics,visual anthropology,psychology,design and other related theories,this thesis conducts research from the following aspects: First,starting with the macro-narrative concept,The author examines how narrative expression has intervened in the formation and evolution of Chinese characters.The author also demonstrates the interplay between Chinese characters,images,and narratives,highlighting the unique role of Chinese characters as a medium for storytelling,and summarizes the different forms of narrative expression at different stages;Second,the author briefly reviews the development of the narratology and derived inspiration from it.Then Combined with post-classical narratology theory,the thesis discusses the possibility of narrative in font design works from the perspectives of works and audiences,analyzes the theoretical basis of narrative expression in Chinese character design works from the perspectives of "intertextuality" and "integration of vision";Third,attempting to restore the development process of narrative expression in Chinese character design works,the author refines the visual elements in Chinese character design,integrates design and narrative theory,analyzes the generation process of visual images,the expression of narrative stories and the transmission of emotions in font design works from the perspectives of strokes,structure,layout,atmosphere,and dimensions,and summarizes the path of narrative expression generation;Fourth,through the above analysis of narrative construction,the thesis summarizes the principles and methods of narrative expression of Chinese characters.In the aspects of legibility and defamiliarization of works,visual metaphor,symbolic transmission,emotional transmission,etc.,the author analyzes the interesting and profound effects of the font design works brought by the design work;At last,through the classification and analysis of the different application methods of the current font design,the author analyzes and explores the presentation method and process of the narrative expression,and summarizes the inspiration and impetus of the narrative expression method in the current font design application.
