On The Narrative Performance Of Contemporary Drama

The diversification of dramatic structure is one of the characteristics of contemporary drama.However,classical narratology takes literary works as its main research object,and most of the articles related to narratology are applied to the theoretical research of dramatic literature,while there are few discussions on the combination of performance and narratology.This paper attempts to make an in-depth study from the existing theoretical articles related to performance narration,and analyzes personal practice experience and discusses it in combination with it,in order to build a bridge between practical application and theoretical knowledge.The first chapter is "Multiple Narratives in contemporary drama".This chapter gives a general overview of the narrative mode of contemporary drama,and focuses on the summary and distillation of its innovative development.Starting from the narrative mode,it discusses the role and significance of the narrative mode for dramatic narrative based on the narrative structure of representative playwrights,works and the narrative characteristics of different drama schools.This paper finds the theoretical and practical basis for the innovation of narrative mode in isolationist Amusement Park.The second chapter is "the function of actors as narrators".In the drama,actors will communicate to the audience as narrators,and the roles they play may also assume part of the narrative function.Starting from narrative function,this chapter analyzes characters’ behaviors that promote narrative function.From the narrative perspective,grasp the characteristics of narrative perspective;Explore the influence of different narrative modes on actors’ creation.The third chapter is "Performance narrative in Isolationist Amusement Park".This chapter mainly tells the specific creative process and methods of shaping the role of "Irene" in Isolationist Amusement Park,and makes a case analysis of her narrative function and role image in the play.To sum up,the play Isolationist Amusement Park breaks the traditional linear narrative mode of the stage,which also makes the actors’ performance narrative mode more stylized.My personal practical and creative experience has triggered my in-depth research and reflection on the performance narrative.Based on the contemporary multiple narrative mode,the performance narrative theory and the concept of "narrative performance" proposed by Lin Zhaohua,Further attempts to find a systematic theoretical basis for a complete performance narrative creation process.
