Research On The Local Image In The Central Mainstream Media From The Perspective Of National Governance

Promoting the modernization of national governance is of vital importance to people’s livelihood and national policy.Finding a model that suits China’s national conditions and balances the relationship between central and local governments is an important part of the modernization of national governance.As a newspaper of the Party Central Committee,People’s Daily connects with the central government and local governments.It has a significant role in demonstrating and guiding the entire media industry,and also plays an important role as a bridge and link in the national governance.This article takes the local reports on the front page of the People ’s Daily from 2013 to 2020 as the research object.Based on the theory of national governance with Chinese characteristics,the theory of agenda setting and the framework theory,this article analyzes the People’s Daily from the three levels of the material frame,the saliency frame and the construction frame.The front-page local reports highlight where to report on local issues,the characteristics of the local image constructed,and the construction strategy,and explore how the People’s Daily balances the relationship between the central and local governments through front-page local reports,as well as the role and strategies of the People’s Daily in national governance.The research finds that the local reports on the front page of People’s Daily closely follow the country’s "five-in-one" strategic layout;People’s Daily adopts the methods of telling stories,establishing models and balanced reports to construct the local image;People’s Daily is an important builder of national governance with Chinese characteristics.It participates in national governance by strengthening political identity,deepening precise communication,and coordinating multiple subjects.At the same time,the People’s Daily is also the key to balancing the relationship between the central and local governments.On the one hand,setting an agenda to objectively convey the spirit of the central government and avoiding the existence of the central government’s compulsion;on the other hand,reporting local situations through media research and other methods to prevent local governments from using their information advantages to deceive the central government.Starting from the construction of the local image on the front page of the People ’s Daily,this thesis explores the role and strategy of the People ’s Daily in national governance,and expands the boundary and scope of the research on the central mainstream media and national governance.It has practical significance and theoretical value as well.
