Starting from the realistic social practice,Marx explored the formation of individual and community in civil society and the relationship between them, and revealed the unique symbiotic relationship between individual and community in civil society.Among them, the individual of civil society is a realistic individual engaged in material production practice, which contains a highly developed subjectivity. The community of civil society is illusory, deceptive and represents the interests of the bourgeoisie.Under the influence of the illusory community, the individual of civil society presents a unique state of alienation. Therefore, different from the direct dependence and unity of individuals on the community mediated by blood and geography in traditional society,in civil society, the relationship between individuals and the community is a unity of opposites based on material dependence and human independence.Marx’s exploration of the relationship between individual and community in civil society is a study of the whole human history, because civil society is the intermediate stage of the transition from capitalist society to future society. Before studying the relationship between individual and community in civil society,Marx first explained the characteristics and mutual relationship between individual and community in human traditional society,And Marx found the possibility of the transition from the traditional community to the illusory community of civil society-the emergence of private ownership.Through the analysis of the opposition and division between the individual and the community under the logical rule of civil social capital,Marx paid attention to the modernity crisis of individual survival, which also laid a theoretical foundation for Marx to build a real community and realize people’s free and all-round development in the future society. At the same time,Marx’s analysis of the relationship between individual and community in civil society has profound contemporary value, which enlightens the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind to realize the free and all-round development of modern people. This paper is mainly divided into four parts to discuss the relationship between individual and community in Marx’s civil society.Firstly, the first part expounds the theoretical origin of civil society, and combs out the development from the form of city-state community with political and cultural functions in ancient Greece, the form of the unity of state and society in the Middle Ages to the social form with emerging political and economic meaning in modern times, and Marx’s civil society not only refers to bourgeois society, but also has rich economic connotation. At the same time,it analyzes the dual identity of individual as public and private in civil society, and makes it clear that the individual in civil society is a realistic, atomic and alienated individual. It also analyzes the origin community of traditional society and its transition to civil society community, and discusses the connotation and characteristics of the illusory community of civil society.Based on the realistic picture of civil society, the second part analyzes the influence of Hegel’s state theory,Feuerbach’s humanistic thought and Steiner’s unique theory on Marx’s study of the relationship between individual and community in civil society. The third part combs Marx’s criticism on the political economy of civil society, and discusses the Enlightenment of alienated labor, private property and the main contradictions of civil society to our exploration of the relationship between individual and community in civil society. At the same time,it expounds the manifestation of the opposition and unity between individual and community in civil society. The fourth part expounds the practical significance of studying the relationship between individual and community in Marx’s civil society. The core of this paper is to discuss the dialectical movement process of the division and unity of individual and community in Marx’s civil society. The ultimate value purpose is to establish a community of human destiny based on the present.
