| For "silent" rural left-behind women who have been in a marginal position for a long time, the embedding of new media provides them with a platform for expression and display. They use new media to record their lives, express themselves, make friends, maintain intimate relationships, participate in public affairs, and engage in entertainment and recreation, which greatly expands their living space. The study selected a group of rural left-behind women in H Village of Hebi,Henan Province, and conducted a study on their use of new media, and empowerment and dilemmas in the process of their new media use.The new media empowerment of rural left-behind women can be reflected in five major aspects: information empowerment, political empowerment, economic and technological empowerment,self-discourse empowerment and emotional empowerment. However,as a disadvantaged group, their empowerment dilemmas are also obvious:endogenous dilemmas such as fear of technology due to unfamiliarity with cell phone functions, solidified audience thinking due to traditional power patterns,as well as lack of family support, objective dilemma such as inadequate work of grass-roots governments and related organizations, symbolic violence of rural culture labeled as rustic, and unavoidable digital divide. These dilemmas prevent new media from better empowering rural left-behind women in all aspects. To solve the above dilemmas,we need the joint efforts of different subjects.First of all,we must change the ideological concepts of rural left-behind women, stimulate the main role of themselves,so that they can have the conditions to consciously strengthen their media literacy and self-identity;Second,we need to activate the leading role of the social level, create empowerment conditions, the government and relevant departments such as the Women’s Federation should strengthen policy support and technical training, broaden the employment and entrepreneurship channels of rural left-behind women in the field of new media, encourage and guide rural left-behind women to accept new media skills teaching, formal or informal organizations in rural areas can establish rural family service stations to alleviate the pressure on rural left-behind women; Finally, for new media platforms,it is also necessary to play a supporting role, construct new media rights issues for rural left-behind women in a diversified manner, cultivate opinion leaders for rural left-behind female, take care of the image construction of rural left-behind women.Through these measures,it is possible to better protect the voice of rural left-behind women in the new media era, ensure that they seize the opportunities of new media empowerment, improve the quality of rural population, and enhance the digital survival status of rural left-behind women. |
