Population aging is a global trend and a challenge to global development in the contemporary world and it requires the corresponding policies to cope with it.It constitutes a demographic change that presents both challenges and opportunities. This thesis explores the concept of active aging from a multi-dimensional view and it explains that active aging policies are the most essential policies the European Union(EU)has implemented to address population aging.Using qualitative research methods including secondary research and quantitative statistical data, the thesis argues the significance of the ideal of active aging policies in the EU,primarily focused on extending the working lives of older individuals.Nevertheless,it also exposes the shift of the EU policies for active aging towards a more comprehensive approach. The main finding of the research consists of the need for the European Union and its Member States to develop a comprehensive and effective active aging policy agenda that addresses the social, physical, and mental well-being of older adults. The thesis highlights the need for a holistic approach to cope with the demands of older adults and to promote the full participation of the elderly in society. |
