Marxism is the doctrine of the conditions of proletarian emancipation, and the practice of the proletariat in transforming capitalist society through and for itself is the home of all Marx’s theories. In this context, where the modern proletariat comes from, how it constitutes itself as a whole and how it forms its own essential provisions are undoubtedly extremely important theoretical aspects that directly determine what the proletariat does in reality and where it will go in the future. The formation of the proletariat in capitalist society is an empirical fact of history. How Marx elevated this empirical fact into a theoretical form and formed a rich and concrete concept of the proletariat is the idea of Marx on the formation of the proletariat that this paper will explore. The basic point of this paper is that Marx’s idea of the formation of the proletariat is the product of a philosophical critique and a political economy critique, unfolding in two directions, political economy analysis and historical analysis, forming a rich and concrete theoretical content.Part I,Introduction. This section introduces the background and significance of the topic, reviews the research results on the proletariat at home and abroad, explains the ideas of the thesis, and summarizes the innovations and shortcomings of the thesis. In the second part, the ideological basis of Marx’s proletariat formation is studied.Early on,Marx used humanitarian critique to discover the subjectivity of human beings. And later, the historical materialist critique is carried out to discover the decisive role of the proletariat in the making of history. Finally, through the critique of political economy, the formation of the proletariat is explored in terms of the logic of the operation of capital. The third part examines the political economy analysis of the formation of the proletariat. How the proletariat came into being and how it became a self-contained class.Marx argues that the capitalist mode of production created the historical emergence of the proletariat, which became a self-made class through the advanced ideas, the leadership of advanced political parties, and the conscious revolutionary action of the proletariat in reality. The proletariat as a true community has the historical mission to liberate itself,to liberate all humanity and to build a union of free men.The fourth part is a study of the historical analysis of the formation of the proletariat.Marx examines the formation of the proletariat at the level of political economy by examining the logic of capital. The proletariat is a product of the conditions of capitalist private ownership of the means of production.Private ownership of the means of production is both the source of social inequality and the cause of the formation of the proletariat.Under the logic of capital, capital pursues the maximisation of surplus value and intensifies the exploitation of the proletariat in various forms, such as the length and intensity of labour. The capitalists’ quest to maximise surplus value inevitably results in the destitution of the proletariat. In the consistency of fundamental economic interests,Marx thus argues that the realistic end of the inevitable destitution of the proletarians signals that they are a class in themselves.A class that does not possess the means of production and sells its labour as a commodity in order to earn a living. The fifth part is the important value of Marx’s idea of the formation of the proletariat.Although it has been more than a hundred years since Marx’s thought on the formation of the proletariat, deepening the study of Marx’s thought on the formation of the proletariat still has important theoretical value and practical significance in today’s society. In today’s competitive world,Marx’s idea of proletarian formation helps Marxist researchers to improve the theory of the proletariat, guide the direction of the proletarian struggle and direct the practice of the proletarian struggle.
