In the context of an aging population with fewer children and a continuous decrease in labor participation rates, alleviating work-family conflicts is of great significance for enhancing effective labor supply in society.Driven by factors such as resource availability, cultural background, and intergenerational exchange, the intergenerational care provided by parents in Chinese families has significantly alleviated the burden of care on their children, further affecting their labor supply and other time allocation methods. So,to what extent will the intergenerational care provided by parents affect the labor supply of offspring and even the performance of the labor market? Where will the released time be transferred to the relieved care time constraints of the offspring? How will the family division of labor be adjusted between offspring couples? The above questions are all the content that this article aims to discuss and answer.Based on this thinking, the following empirical research is conducted.First, the research subjects were young couples with children aged 0 to 15 years old.The data of the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)in 2014,2016 and 2018 were selected to analyze the impact of intergenerational care on the labor supply decision-making of offspring couples using linear Statistical model(LPM)and Instrumental variables estimation method(IV).The results showed that intergenerational care could significantly increase the labor participation rate of wives by 27.4%,but had no significant impact on the labor supply decision-making of husbands; For the study of labor supply time,Tobit model and Extended Regression Model(ERM)were used to examine the impact of intergenerational care.It was found that intergenerational care can significantly increase the potential weekly labor time of wives by 29.985 hours, but the impact on the labor supply time of husbands is not significant. The above results also passed the robustness test of replacing the regression model and replacing the endogeneity treatment method.Secondly, considering that the impact of intergenerational care on offspring wives may not only be reflected in labor supply, but also in the improvement of employment quality. This article constructs employment quality indicators from three dimensions: work income, work hours, and job security, and uses employment satisfaction to generate robust alternative indicators of employment quality. The study follows an extended regression model, and the results show that intergenerational care can significantly improve the employment quality of wives, without affecting the employment quality of husbands. In addition,to understand the overall impact of intergenerational care on individual and family behavior.Based on the time trichotomy method of Family economics, this paper studies the heterogeneous impact of intergenerational care on the housework time and leisure time of offspring couples. The results show that intergenerational care can significantly reduce the wife’s housework time by 4.768~7.473 hours, and increase the leisure time of non working wives by 12.491 hours, but has no significant impact on the leisure time of working wives. For the husband sample, intergenerational care had no significant impact on their household chores, but significantly increased their leisure time by about 3.5 hours for both the husband total sample and the work sample.Further examining the impact of intergenerational care on family division of labor patterns through the proportion of time allocation between spouses,it was found that intergenerational care can significantly increase the wife’s proportion of working time, reduce the wife’s proportion of household labor time, and help weaken the "male dominated, female dominated" family division of labor pattern. Finally, summarize and sort out the empirical results of the article, and based on the conclusions, propose policy recommendations to improve the foundation of intergenerational care, improve the social upbringing system, and strengthen gender equality promotion.
