| The high price of betrothal gifts in rural areas has become an important fact of social concern.It directly increases the economic burden of the villagers.Many families are in debt because of the betrothal gifts.Some villagers have family disputes and family conflicts because of the betrothal gifts between the two sides,and even cheat to get benefits.All these have seriously damaged the development and stability of rural areas.It has been considered that it is the result of the imbalance of the sex ratio in the rural marriage market,the marriage squeeze caused by the open intermarriage circle,the impact of the values brought by the rural social transformation and the economic exploitation of the parents by the children.However,various studies focus on the analysis from the perspective of objective social structure,and lack empirical analysis of the internal causes of social psychology of this phenomenon.The high price betrothal gift is a symbolic result of the social marriage market,and the social mentality is its important formation logic.The use of case study methods can form a more in-depth and vivid insight into the understanding analysis of social mentality.Therefore,this paper chooses X village in northern Anhui as the site of field research to study the phenomenon of high price betrothal gifts in rural areas of northern Anhui.On the basis of case interviews,this paper mainly describes the social fact of the high price of betrothal gifts in rural areas in detail,and focuses on the theoretical interpretation of the formation logic behind this phenomenon from the perspective of villagers’ social psychology.The interview found that the betrothal gifts in village X include engagement betrothal gifts,wedding betrothal gifts and hidden betrothal gifts.The total value of the betrothal gifts is far higher than the average income of local residents.Most families spend all their savings on the betrothal gifts.For families with weak economic foundation,they even need to borrow money to pay the betrothal gifts.The high price of betrothal gifts has brought serious economic burden to the local villagers,but the community is unanimous in the high price of betrothal gifts,and the villagers have a social mentality of supporting the high price of betrothal gifts.The study found that the social behavior of high price betrothal gifts is formed by the mutual construction of individual psychology and group psychology,and the psychology of individual acceptance of high price betrothal gifts is combined into the mood state shared by social members through the transmission mechanism of emotional infection,social identity,and depersonalization;Villagers have the same value identity in terms of face culture,marital security,intergenerational responsibility and compensation psychology.At the same time,the emotional infection of the social individuals of acquaintances who compete with each other leads to the phenomenon of betrothal competition.In addition,the villagers’ depersonalization in the group situation leads to the transformation of the support mentality of high-priced betrothal gifts into group attitudes.The support attitude of the group to the high price betrothal gifts acts on individual psychology and behavior through group pressure,herd effect,group polarization,etc;The group accusation,group criticism,etc.generated by group norms exert pressure on individuals,and further produce the herd effect,which causes villagers to follow the high price lottery behavior one after another under the drive of interests.Finally,under the publicity of the network media,individuals more recognize the high price lottery,and promote individuals to transform the high price lottery into social facts. |
