The period of the War of Liberation was a significant turning point in the revolutionary history of the Communist Party of China, and also a critical period for the rapid development of the Party’s military reporting. After the outbreak of the war, military propaganda became the absolute center of the Party’s news and propaganda work, and timely reporting of frontline victories through news broadcasts was crucial to stabilizing military morale and boosting morale.Under wartime conditions, major propaganda forces such as party newspapers,Xinhua News Agency, and various military newspapers overcame difficulties and established a vast network of military reporting, contributing a large number of military reports, commentary on military affairs, and battlefield communications, making enormous contributions to the mobilization of the army. This article examines the text of the Communist Party of China’s military reporting during the War of Liberation, summarizes the logical framework and content system of relevant reports for mobilizing the Liberation Army, and answers the question of "how did the Communist Party of China use military reporting to mobilize the troops during the War of Liberation."This article consists of the following three parts: Firstly,a discussion of the concept and historical background of Communist Party of China’s military propaganda mobilization during the Liberation War.In this period, military propaganda was highly valued by the Communist Party of China as a means of political mobilization, with the aim of making soldiers and civilians understand the war’s objectives. Therefore,in the face of the complex mobilization situation at the beginning of the war,the Communist Party of China strengthened its policy guidance on military propaganda, established Xinhua News Agency in front-line troops, and developed the "all-army publish a newspaper" movement, providing a wealth of military reporting material to mobilize the army.Secondly,a discussion of the propaganda mobilization of Communist Party of China’s military reporting during the Liberation War on three progressive levels: 1.Propaganda mobilization for the nature of the war, showcasing the recognition of the nature of the war through relevant military reporting at different stages of the Liberation War,including from the defensive war to the counter-offensive,and to the theme of liberating the entire China, clarifying the war’s objectives and prospects;2.Mobilization of the methods of war, including the strategy of annihilating the enemy with mobile warfare, propaganda to undermine the Nationalist Army, and the democratic construction of the army, demonstrating the Communist Party of China’s understanding of "how to conduct war";3.Mobilization of the military discipline and style, strengthening the identity recognition of the soldiers of the Liberation Army and building the external image of the army,by presenting the execution of discipline and policies, typical reports of battle heroes, and the essence of the Liberation Army as the "People’s Army".Through these three levels of content, the Communist Party of China,as the mobilization subject, formed a logical framework of "cognition-execution-recognition" in military reporting propaganda mobilization.Thirdly, the characteristics and insights of military reporting, propaganda, and mobilization by the Chinese Communist Party during the War of Liberation can be summarized as follows.Relevant military reports reconstructed the soldiers’ collective perception of warfare and fostered a "fight to win" mentality within the army.Simultaneously, the reports provided military education and combined with ideological work within the army to mobilize troops to become a modern military that is capable of fighting and winning. In terms of practical features, selective reporting and propaganda aimed at demoralizing the enemy were distinctive features of military reporting. The historical experiences derived from the Party’s leadership in military reporting, the mobilization value of typical reporting, and the creation of a powerful news army have practical implications for the construction of the image of the People’s Army and the strengthening of military reporting in the present context. |
