| In recent years, the household consumption rate has continued to decline for a long time, consumer domestic demand is insufficient, and the upgrading of the consumer structure is slow.At present, the final consumer rate of households in China is 65.4%,the development and enjoyment ratio is 39.4%,all are significantly lower than the overall level of developed countries, and there is a lot of development space for consumer growth.Family members are the main body of consumer decision-making,while the unmarried population is also an important component of the family population structure, and play an important role in the adjustment of family consumer spending decisions and consumer structures. On the one hand,in the face of the growth rate of marriage expenditure faster than per capita income growth rate, increased the household economic burden, strengthened the family for the marriage of unmarried members early to reduce consumption into "Chinese marriage";at the same time, the family’s stronger adjustment of interest consistency, intergenerational relations are closer, and marriage market match is a competitive market mechanism, looking for the best spouse to the greatest benefits,so in order to increase the relative competitiveness of the unmarried members will tend to reduce the consumer, which further strengthen the non-married population structure for the inhibition of consume;on the other hand, the recent years, the gender imbalance in the marital market, increasingly showed that unmarried men are pressured. This paper analyzes the impact of household unmarried demographic structure on household consumption,in which the unmarried demographic structure includes two aspects: first, the aggregate characteristics of the number of unmarried household members;second, the gender characteristics of the number of unmarried males and unmarried females in the household. The specific research of this paper is as follows:(1)First,summarize and outline the theoretical foundation related to this paper, and put forward the core research hypothesis of this paper under the support of family consumption theory, marriage economics theory, competitive savings theory and family intergenerational culture theory;(2)A mixed regression analysis is conducted mainly using three periods of unbalanced panel data from the China Household Tracking Data(CFPS)for 2014,2016 and 2018.First,in the baseline regression, the impact of household unmarried demographic structure on total household consumption and consumption structure is examined.(3)Since housing is a "status good" and can effectively transmit "quality" and "ability" in the marriage market,we use a two-way Based on the three-period equilibrium panel data,we use a two-way fixed effects model to investigate whether multiple home ownership positively moderates the disincentive effect of unmarried demographics on household consumption.(4)To ensure the consistency and accuracy of the regression results, the robustness tests are conducted by replacing the core explanatory variables and quantile regressions as well as using the twoway fixed-effects model of the balanced panel and the Hausman model.effect model and Hausman-Taylor for endogeneity testing.(5)Finally,heterogeneity analysis was conducted in four aspects: household income level, age level of unmarried members,urban-rural distribution, and regional distribution. From the above study, this paper concludes the following:(1)in terms of consumption levels, the number of unmarried members has a significant inhibitory effect on consume levels;and that inhibition effect is gender-differentiated,and the coefficient of number of homeless men in the household is significantly greater than that of the unmarried women.(2)In terms of consumer structure, family members not only inhibit survival consumptions, but also significantly inhibit the development of enjoyment consumption, thus hindering the escalation of household consumptive structures.(3)The mechanisms for the influence of household unmarried population structures on household consumption were examined, and it was found that both the “wealth effect” of having multiple houses and housing can effectively regulate the inhibitory effect of singlemarried member structures upon household spending.(4)Finally,this paper analyses the heterogeneity of the four aspects of income levels, age levels, urban and rural distribution and regional distribution. After drawing these conclusions, this article makes the following policy recommendations:(1)the government should advocate good marriage civilization norms, guide people to establish the correct marriage conception, reduce the negative impact of marriage cost on household consumption;(2)improve the related support policies for fertility incentives, gradually promote the balanced development of male and female proportions, lay a good foundation for the healthy development of the marriage market in the future;(3)gradually guide the public to weaken housing as an identity commodity, improve multi-channel housing supply;(4)further improve the social security system, improve the family income level. |
