Research On The Willingness And Influencing Factors Of Housing Adaptations

In order to cope with the situation of increasing ageing population,the establishment of a multi-level social care service system with ageing in place as the core has become a national strategy.The prerequisite for aging in place is to create a living environment suitable for the elderly to live independently.However,the existing old residential buildings are generally designed without considering the demand of elderly,resulting in frequent indoor falls and increasing the risk of living.Housing adaptation improves the accessibility of the housing conditions and mitigates the threat of physical environment by adjusting the layout of house and installing auxiliary facilities,which plays a fundamental role in promoting ageing in place.The study aims to find factors that influence the willingness to adapt houses of people aged over 50 and lived in Hangzhou through qualitative and quantitative methods,based on the theory of Active Ageing and “Person-Environment Fit”,combined with the analysis of policy documents related housing adaptation and the current situation and challenges of housing adaptations in Hangzhou,which will improve the willingness,service system and effectiveness of housing adaptation.The results show that 59.6% of the total sample are willing to adapt their houses.By using the binary logistic regression model,it is found that nine variables including age,marital status,education level,monthly income,housing construction time,domestic storey,awareness of housing adaptation,policy understanding and the history of housing adaptation have significant effects on the willingness of housing adaptations.Specifically,in terms of individual attributes,the age is negatively correlated with the willingness of housing adaptation,married residents are more willing to adapt their houses than unmarried residents,and the higher the education level and monthly income,the stronger the willingness to adapt houses.In terms of living conditions,there are significant negative effects of residential construction time and domestic storey to willingness of housing adaptation.In terms of housing adaptation cognition,people have heard about housing adaptation and know about the policies are more willing to adapt houses,and those who have previously adapted their houses are more willing to do so again.Housing adaptation is convenient for the older people to conduct daily activities live independently.However,there are some problems in the development process that lead to the reduction of the willingness of the middle-aged and elderly people to make the housing adaptation,including the limitations of the supply content and objects,the weak demand capacity of the elderly and the poor effect of the delivery process.In view of these problems,this thesis proposes some suggestions for from three perspectives of developing demand-driven awareness,improving system construction and integrating multiple resources,in order to meet the living demand of people and improve the willingness of housing adaptation,so as to promote the sustainable development of housing adaptation and achieve the goal of active aging.
