"TikTok Parenting?":The Impact Of Short Videos On The Development Of Preschool Children

The upgrade of mobile communication technology has made mobile phones a new form of entertainment after televisions and computers.This approach not only changes adults,but also changes minors and even preschool children in a subtle way.Especially with the rapid development of short videos,rich video content has also attracted the attention of preschoolers,which makes short videos a new "tittytainment" for children in the Internet age."TikTok Parenting" has become a new way of parenting that is common in today’s society.In this context,whether preschool children watching short videos will have an adverse effect on their development is worthy of our attention.Therefore,this article uses the TikTok as an example to conduct an empirical study on preschool children aged 3-6 in Chibi City in the form of a questionnaire survey.From the three types of schools in Chibi(urban public schools,urban private schools,and township public schools).9 schools were selected as the research objects,and a total of 1429 questionnaires were returned.The purpose of the research is to understand the use of TikTok in children aged 3-6.analyze the development of these children,and further discuss the impact of TikTok on the development of children aged 3-6.The results of the study found that:First,the use of TikTok has a comprehensive impact on children’s development,which will affect the eight dimensions of children’s development including speech and language intelligence,mathematical logic intelligence,visual spatial intelligence,bodily kinaesthetic intelligence,musical rhythm intelligence.and interpersonal communication intelligence.And in these eight dimensions,there are differences in their influencing factors and effects.Second,the influence of TikTok use on children’s development is regulated by many factors.The role of the media on children’s development will be interfered by other factors,which will affect the role of the media.The influencing factors include family socioeconomic status and parental mediation.Third,in the impact of family socioeconomic status on children’s development,the mother’s education level is significant for the child’s development,but the education level of the father has nothing to do with the development of the child.And the higher the family’s total monthly income,the better the child’s development.Fourth,when parents mediate their children’s use of media,their choice of mediation methods will have different effects on child development.Among them,restrictive mediation is significantly related to child development,but there is no significant difference between common use and child development.In addition,there are also differences in the choice of restrictive mediation strategies.Mediation methods that are not easily perceived by children can promote children’s development,but authoritative mediation methods from top to bottom are not conducive to children’s development.
