Classroom presentation has been widely used in college English classes as a communicative activity and designed to promote students’ English learning.In recent years,the classroom presentation in college English classes by means of multimedia has become more and more popular with teachers and students.However,many scholars have found that not all classroom presentations are effective as expected.Guangxi Normal University adopts the flipped classroom model to provide students with a platform for presenting themselves.So,it’s worth studying the effect of students’ classroom presentations under this model.Through two questionnaires,the author investigated the effectiveness of classroom presentation and the factors affecting the classroom presentation effectiveness of non-English majors in flipped classroom in order to provide some enlightening suggestions for improving the college English teaching.The methods of questionnaire survey and classroom observation are employed in this paper.The author takes 222 sophomores of non-English majors in Guangxi Normal University as the research subject.The questionnaire on the effectiveness of classroom presentation is based on the theory of Kens et al.(2005)and developed from Wang Chaochao’s(2017)questionnaire,which embodies four dimensions,i.e.,participation in classroom presentation,recognition of classroom presentation,ability cultivation of classroom presentation and self-efficacy of classroom presentation.The questionnaire of factors affecting college English students’ classroom presentation is designed on the basis of Junko Otoshi & Neil Heffernen’s(2008)questionnaire,containing seven dimensions,namely students’ attitude to presentation,content of classroom presentation,design of classroom presentation,time management of classroom presentation,ways of classroom presentation,effectiveness of the speaker’s performance and students’ feedback of presentation.Moreover,the author uses classroom observation to supplement the results obtained from the questionnaire of the effectiveness of classroom presentation.This study focuses on two questions:(1)What is the overall situation of the effectiveness of college English students’ classroom presentation in flipped classroom?(2)What are the factors affecting the effectiveness of the students’ classroom presentation in flipped classroom? The results through investigation,show that:(1)Generally speaking,the effectiveness of college students’ presentation is quite satisfactory in flipped classroom.Recognition of classroom presentation and ability cultivation of classroom presentation make the biggest contribution among four dimensions.The others are self-efficacy of classroom presentation and participation in classroom presentation.(2)Factors affecting college English students’ classroom presentation in flipped classroom are numerous.Design of classroom presentation plays the most prominent role among seven dimensions,then comes to students’ feedback of presentation,content of classroom presentation,students’ attitude to presentation,ways of classroom presentation,time management of classroom presentation,and the effectiveness of speaker’s performance.In order to strengthen the effectiveness of college English classroom presentation in flipped classroom,the author has made corresponding suggestions on the basis of the research results:(1)Enhancing students’ recognition of effectiveness classroom presentation;(2)Attaching great importance to designing appropriate presentation activities;and(3)Training strategies on students to upload their presentation videos into the cloud platform and to evaluate each others’ product.
