Listening is not only an important way of language input,but also an important skill that language learners must master.The presentation mode of listening material is an important part of the listening class,and the effective presentation mode can promote the development of students’ listening comprehension ability.Therefore,how to effectively present listening material to improve students’ listening proficiency,which has been the common concern of many scholars and teachers.In this study,200 students from five classes of Grade 2 in a junior high school in Huang Gang city have been selected as the research subjects.The research questions involve:(1)What is the current situation of the presentation mode of listening material for junior high school students?(2)How is the current listening level of junior high school students?(3)Is there a correlation between the presentation mode of listening material and listening proficiency of junior high school students? If so,what is the relevance? Based on the input hypothesis,information processing theory and cognitive load theory,this study collected basic information about the presentation mode of listening material by way of questionnaire and interview.Meanwhile,descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were conducted on the data through SPSS22.0 combined with student’s listening test scores.The major findings are as follows:(1)At present,in junior high school English listening classes,the frequency of the presentation mode of listening material is ranked from high to low: audio,video without subtitles,video with English subtitles.(2)The average score of the students is 14.72,and the overall listening level is above average.(3)There is a positive correlation between the presentation mode of listening material and listening proficiency,and the correlation,from strong to weak,is ordered as follows: video with English subtitles,video without subtitles and audio.It shows that the presentation mode of listening material has a positive impact on students’ English listening proficiency.According to the research results,the study puts forward some suggestions on English listening teaching.In junior high school English listening class,if conditions permit,English teachers can present the listening material by using video without subtitles or video with English subtitles to provide real situations to students and help students understand the listening passage.At the same time,teachers can use audio to practice listening test to increase the amount of input,so as to improve students’ listening proficiency. |
