Listening teaching, as an important part of training students’language abilities, is gaining increasing significance and attention inhigh school English teaching. Though some effective teaching methodshave been worked out, many problems still exist and they weakenEnglish listening teaching.In this paper, through questionnaires andinterviews, the author made a survey about the situation of Englishlistening teaching in Jiangyin Zhu Tang Middle School. The results wereused as evidence for this research. From the survey, the author findsthat there are some deficiencies in English listening teaching, such asthe absence of teachers’ guidance, the negligence in teachingstrategy, inappropriate use of listening materials, etc. On the part of thestudents, the obstacles to listening comprehension lie in theirinadequate English knowledge, lack of listening strategies,psychology-related factors.Under the guidance of activity leaflet guide learning method andother relevant educational theories, the author tries to explore usefulmeans to promote English listening teaching.In the study, two parallel classes from Zhutang Middle School wereselected as research objects. One was the experimental class, and theother was the comparative class. The comparative study lasted for onesemester.“Activity Leaflet Guide Learning Method” was applied tolistening teaching of the experimental class. The traditional mode oflistening teaching remained in the comparative class. Some necessarydata were acquired before and after the experiment. With thecollected data, the author made a detailed analysis of the effect of“activity leaflet guide learning method” on students’ listeningcomprehension ability, students’ use of English listening strategies andtheir learning motivations. The author also made comprehensive discussion about the results of the application of the “activity leafletguide learning method” in the experiment and showed how it workedin high school English listening teaching.The results show that the “activity leaflet guide learning method”promoted high school English listening teaching. This method not onlyincreases the level of the learners listening comprehension, but alsoimproves learners’ integrated language skills in speaking, writing, andlistening as well. Meanwhile, it can fundamentally enhance students’motivation for listening study.
