Textbooks are a medium for elucidating course content,an important tool for guiding teachers and students in teaching activities, and an important material that best reflects the current mainstream educational ideas and perspectives of the country.High school chemistry compulsory textbooks are an indispensable carrier of chemical knowledge for high school students during their learning process. The "metals and their compounds" in the textbooks are an important component of the high school teaching knowledge system, playing a supporting role in the learning of basic concepts and principles of chemistry. Therefore, conducting teaching and research on "metals and their compounds" has certain practical significance and research value. In 2013,Japan began implementing the latest version of "Learning Guidance Essentials for Higher Education Institutions(Science Section)" formulated by the Ministry of Education,Culture,Culture, and Science, hereinafter referred to as "Learning Guidance Essentials".Due to the fact that both China and Japan belong to the Eastern cultural system, educational exchanges between the two countries have always been frequent, and there are also many similarities in education. Therefore, analyzing and comparing the "metals and their compounds" in high school chemistry textbooks between China and Japan can broaden international perspectives, enrich the theory of comparison between Chinese and Japanese textbooks, provide reference for frontline teachers’ classroom teaching, and also provide useful references for the further revision and improvement of high school chemistry textbooks in China. This article mainly uses methods such as literature research, text analysis, comparative research, induction, and statistical analysis to compare the curriculum standards of China and Japan,as well as the content of "metals and their compounds" in the current Chinese textbook "Chemistry Compulsory Volume 1"(hereinafter referred to as the 2019 edition of the People’s Education Press textbook)and the latest Japanese curriculum reform textbook "Chemistry 308" in Tokyo,Japan. The research content of this paper is a detailed comparative study of the curriculum standards of China and Japan, the overall structure, organization, presentation, specific content, illustrations, tables, experiments, columns, and exercises of the "Metals and Their Compounds" content in the chemistry textbooks of the two countries. Finally, based on the above research and drawing on the advantages of Japanese textbooks, the author proposes several teaching related suggestions.A summary of the chapter’s content is added at the end of each chapter in the textbook, and corresponding exercises are written at the end of each paragraph, emphasizing the cultivation of students’ exploratory spirit and core subject literacy.
