Gender Performativity Of Online Game Players In The Perspective Of Embodied Communication

With the development of technology,the importance of the body in the research of communication has become increasingly prominent,and the concept of technology embodied by post-phenomenologist Don Idd has attracted more and more scholars’ attention.From "Technology is an extension of human being" to "human being is an extension of technology",more scholars discuss the transformation of human body,especially the transformation of human perception mode by the application of technology in the current technological development,and discuss how human cognition will be affected under the catalysis of technology.At present,cyberspace has become an important expression space.In the specific context of online games,the interaction between players and games,and the interaction between players and players,all show players’ cognition of gender culture in the game cultural space to a certain extent.At a certain level,players will transplant their gender cognition in real life into online games and show it through performativity in the game space.In order to reveal how the game shapes the player’s perceived reality,what kind of gender manipulation is carried out by the player in the game,and what gender bias is behind this manipulation behavior.From the perspective of embodied communication,based on the theory of gender performativity,and by means of in-depth interviews,participatory observation and text analysis,this paper starts from the gender performativity of game players and explores the discipline and rebellion behind the gender performativity of game players along the two paths of discourse and technology.The research finds that the realistic gender cultural tendency still dominates the gender culture in the game space,and the gender training behavior of game players in the game is still affected by the gender order in the social culture.In addition,the discipline from technology affects the gender cognition and training behavior of game players in a more hidden way.
