Interval timing, which is the timing of the duration of milliseconds to minutes,is a conscious estimate of time. There has been controversy about whether children with autism spectrum disorder(hereinafter referred to as autism)have interval timing deficits and whether they have generalized timing deficits.Whether the interval timing performance of low-and high-functioning autistic children is consistent has not been uniformly concluded.Nor is it clear that children with autism can improve their interval timing skills through training. The characteristics of interval timing in autistic children and whether interval timing ability can be improved through intervention need to be further explored. This study explored the characteristics of interval timing in children with autism, and designed an intervention program on this basis to explore whether their interval timing ability can be improved. This study includes two parts: the first study is the interval timing characteristics of children with autism;the second study is the interval timing intervention of children with autism. The first study included two experiments,in which 20 children with low-functioning autism,high-functioning autism and typical developing children aged 7-12 were selected as the research objects respectively.Compare the accuracy coefficient and absolute error coefficient of three types of children in visual temporal reproduction task and temporal production task, and analyze the characteristics of interval timing of children with autism. In the second study,a single subject experimental design was used to select an autistic child for interval timing intervention research,to explore whether internal clock training and executive function training can improve the interval timing ability of autistic children. The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Autistic children have interval timing deficits, which are specifically manifested as that the tendency of visual temporal reproduction task and temporal production task of autistic children is significantly higher than that of typical developing children, and the accuracy is significantly lower than that of typical developing children.(2)Autistic children have generalized timing deficits, which are manifested in deficits in a wide range of time scales(short duration, medium duration and long duration),different sensory channels(auditory and visual),and different interval timing tasks(temporal reproduction and temporal production).(3)There was no significant difference in tendency and accuracy between low-and high-functioning autistic children in visual temporal reproduction task and temporal production task, and interval timing deficits existed in different subtypes of autistic children.(4)The interval timing ability of autistic children can be improved through internal clock training and executive function training. This study puts forward the following educational recommendations:(1)Play the role of interval timing in improving autism symptoms;(2)Multi-party cooperation and joint participation, emphasizing the cultivation of autistic children’s sense of time;(3)Improve the intervention program for interval timing in Children with Autism;(4)Strengthen the training of special education teachers’ interval timing education and rehabilitation skills;(5)Attach importance to the early intervention of time processing in autistic children.
