A Comparative Study On Social Science Data Management Platform

Social science data is the basic support and important outputs of social science research,and has important reference significance to national policy-making and social and economic development.Under the data intensive research paradigm,more and more social science research depends on the analysis and reuse of existing data.Managing and sharing social science data has attracted extensive attention all over the world.Social science data management platform is an effective way to manage social science data and promote social science data sharing and reuse.Social science data management and sharing services have been carried out earlier in foreign countries.A lot of social science data management platforms have been built and rich experience has been accumulated.In recent years,China has also begun to pay attention to the management and sharing of social science data and built a number of social science data management platforms.However,compared with the construction of social science data management platforms in developed countries,the construction of domestic social science data management platform is still lagging behind.This study adopts the methods of literature analysis,network investigation and comparative research to analyze the construction status of social science data management platforms at home and abroad,selects typical social science data management platforms at home and abroad for comparison,and summarizes the advanced construction experience of foreign social science data management platforms to provide reference for the construction and development of social science data management platforms in China.Firstly,this study explains the concepts related to social science data management platform and theoretical basis.Secondly,based on the statistics of re3 data.org,this study analyzes the geographical distribution,thematic distribution and types of global social science data management platforms,and discusses the construction status of social science data management platforms at home and abroad.Then,this study compares nine typical foreign social science data management platforms and seven domestic social science data management platforms from four aspects,including the construction basis,the function,evaluation and certification and cooperation,analyzes the differences between domestic and foreign social science data management platforms.The survey results show that China still lacks a national comprehensive social science data management platform,the platform construction lacks systematic data policies,continuous funds support,whole process services,trustworthy evaluation and certification,and wide cooperation and communication.The corresponding measures and suggestions are put forward for the existing problems,including building a national comprehensive social science data management platform,establishing an all-round and multi-level data policy system,establishing a multi-channel funds investment mechanism,providing integrated and deep-level data services,carrying out platform trustworthy certification,and actively cooperating with domestic and international heterogeneous institutions.Finally,it further discusses the specific construction practice of social science data management platform in China.This study discusses the construction of social science data management platform,enriches the theoretical research on the construction of research data management platform,can be used as a reference for the construction of social science data management platform in China in the future,and helps to promote the practice of social science data management and sharing in China.
