The Relationship Among High School Students’ Perceived Social Support,Hope And Coping Styles And Educational Strategies

High school is a peak period of the outbreak of psychological conflict.During this time,high school students usually encounter various mental disorders caused by the stresses from their school work,interpersonal relationships,social adaptation and career development.Therefore,in order to enhance their physical and mental well-beings,it is of crucial importance for high school students to cope with stressful situations in their study and daily life positively.From the perspective of perceived social support and hope,this study intends to explore the relationship between these two variables and high school students’ coping styles.Besides,based on the research results,this study will put forward some instructive educational strategies from several aspects for the cultivation and optimization of high school students’ coping styles.Using the Perceived Social Support Scale,the Simple Coping Style Scale and the Trait Hope Scale for middle-high school students,this study took 632 students from four high schools in Hanzhong and Bazhong city as the research objects and conducted an investigation in which 585 valid questionaires were taken back.In this study,SPSS 23.0 was employed for statistics analysis to reveal the relationship among perceived social support,hope and coping styles.The research results are as follows:(1)Regarding perceived social support,high school students is developing well overall.In terms of students’ gender,girls notably score higher than boys in perceived social support received from others;In terms of students’ origins,urban students score notably higher than rural students;In term of no siblings or not,students having no siblings score notably higher than those who have.(2)Regarding hope,high school students is in the medium level among which their pathway thinking develops well while their agency thinking is below the middle level.In terms of grade,grade one score much lower than grade two and three.In term of students’ origin,the urban one score notably higher than the rural in hope and pathway thoughts.(3)Regarding coping styles,students are more inclined to the positive coping strategies than the negative ones.In terms of grade,grade two get much higher score than grade one in the negative coping dimensions;In term of gender,boys score obviously higher than girls in the negative coping dimensions;In terms of students’ origins,urban students scores greatly higher than rural ones in the both positive and negative dimensions.(4)High school students’ perceived social support has a significantly positive and predictive impact on their hope and positive coping strategies.High school students’ hope has a significantly positive and predictive impact on their positive coping strategies and a significantly negative predictive impact on their negative coping strategies.High school students’ perceived social support has a inapparently negative impact on their negative coping strategies.(5)High school students’ hope partially mediates the correlation between their perceived social support and positive coping strategies.According to the research result,in order to promote high school students’ coping styles,the following educational strategies are given.(1)Structure a positive family and school support system beneficial to high school students’ well-beings by raising the level of intimacy between parents and their child and creating a positive school atmosphere.(2)Families and schools can improve high school students’ hope level by elevating students’ self-efficacy degree on learning,fostering students’ problem-solving ability and enhancing their ideal education.(3)Families and schools should help high school students cognize the stressors in their study and daily life correctly and optimize their coping style so as to improving their coping ability.
