Intangible cultural heritage is the most remarkable and rich part of the Chinese nation’s cultural heritage,which originated from the folklore,developed in the townships and among the cities,is loved by the masses and has a strong regional character.According to the list published by the relevant departments of China’s intangible cultural heritage,we know that the composition of intangible cultural heritage includes folk opera,folk art,folk dance,drama,acrobatics and athletics,folklore,etc.The intangible cultural heritage of sports in China is very rich in content.In addition to the items represented by the Han martial arts,there are many traditional sports items of ethnic minorities based on the traditional culture of ethnic minorities.For many years,Jilin Province has been aiming to become a "strong cultural province" and has attached great importance to the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage,and has achieved significant results.Jilin’s rich ethnic culture is enhanced by the traditional sports of ethnic minorities,which also make the lives of ethnic minorities more vivid.Jilin Province has achieved a four-tier system of national,provincial,city/state and county-level coverage in its intangible cultural heritage work.However,with the rapid development of the economy and society in recent years,the challenges and pressures on the external environment have been increasing,and the province’s ageing population,low birth rate and migration of young adults have gradually come to the fore,coupled with the strong impact of diverse cultures,the province’s traditional minority cultures are facing unprecedented tests in terms of inheritance and development.Therefore,based on the perspective of intangible cultural heritage protection,this research paper collates and explores the existing traditional sports of ethnic minorities in Jilin Province through the methods of documentation,historical analysis and fieldwork.Firstly,a brief overview of the historical background of traditional sports of ethnic minorities in Jilin Province is given.Secondly,the list of existing sports intangible cultural heritage in Jilin province at all levels and the basic information are classified and sorted out in a visual list,and the progress made in the development of sports intangible cultural heritage projects in the province under the intangible cultural heritage system is elaborated.Thirdly,the basic information on the traditional sports programmes of ethnic minorities in Jilin Province is collated.The main dilemmas faced in the distribution,development and transmission of the projects are collated and analysed.Fourthly,the positive effects of the intangible cultural heritage system on the heritage development of traditional sports of ethnic minorities are observed from the perspective of intangible cultural heritage.This mainly includes: 1.bridging the gap in understanding and knowledge of the history and culture of traditional minority sports;2.strengthening the cultural heritage of traditional minority sports 3.promoting the heritage development of traditional minority sports in schools.Fifth,to summarise the basic strategies for the heritage development of traditional sports of ethnic minorities in the province under the intangible cultural heritage system.They mainly include: 1.improving the management mechanism and promoting efficient management functions;2.widening the dissemination channels and increasing the publicity and display;3.continuously strengthening the measures for discovering and training inheritors;4.attaching importance to the leading and driving role of the project culture.
