At present, the academic evaluation system of colleges and universities overemphasizes "individual competitionism",which is difficult to match the state’s emphasis on breaking the five-only orientation and the needs of whole-person development goals. At the same time,GPA has become a high-interest indicator affecting undergraduate students’ career choice and degree study, which makes the problem of "involution" of academic competition serious, which is mainly manifested as the thinking characteristics of "competing to surpass peers" and the learning dilemma of high investment and low development. Therefore, the current situation of academic competition among college students is worth paying attention to.Based on this, this study empirically investigates the current situation of academic competition among college students, pays attention to the position of college students in academic competition, divides different types of academic competition roles, discusses the dilemma faced by college students in academic competition and the relationship between academic competition and academic achievement, and provides reasonable suggestions for college students to view academic competition objectively. This study adopts a hybrid research method to deeply explore the current situation and characteristics of college students’ academic competition. In terms of quantitative research, this study independently compiled the "College Student Academic Competition Questionnaire" and collected 819 valid data nationwide to explore the characteristics of college students’ academic competition through quantitative analysis. In terms of qualitative research, this study follows the principle of purpose sampling, interviews 17 college students in depth, describes their role types and characteristics in academic competition, and explores the specific performance and difficulties faced by different types of college students in academic competition. The main findings are as follows:First, the current academic competition of college students is mainly manifested as follows:college students generally have a higher tendency to compete and cooperate, and the tendency to cooperate is higher than the tendency to compete, the purpose of harvest competition of college students is slightly higher than the purpose of utilitarian competition, and there are significant differences in the performance ranking and internal gain of students with different competitive tendencies and utilitarian types. The positive competition psychology of college students is higher than the negative competition psychology, the competition atmosphere is strong and fierce, and the overall level of competition strategy is higher, among which, the activity strategy is the highest, the course strategy is the second, and the last is the time strategy.Second, college students’ academic competition has a significant impact on their academic achievement. The intrinsic gains and academic performance rankings of college students with active competition-high utilitarian type were significantly higher than those of passive competition-high utilitarian type of college students, while the internal gains and academic performance rankings of passive competition-low utilitarian type of college students were significantly lower than those of passive competition-high utilitarian type of college students, and the intrinsic gains and academic performance rankings of passive competition-high utilitarian type of college students were significantly higher than those of passive competitionhigh utilitarian type of students.Secondly, the tendency to cooperate and the purpose of harvesting have a significant positive impact on the intrinsic harvest of college students, but have no significant impact on academic performance.Thirdly, negative competition psychology has a significant negative impact on the internal gain and academic performance of college students, while positive competition psychology only has a significant positive impact on the internal gain of college students. In competitive strategies, the more frequently course strategies are used, the higher the academic performance ranking of college students; The more frequently the activity strategy is used, the more the intrinsic gain of college students, and the time strategy has a significant positive impact on the academic performance ranking and intrinsic gain of college students.Third, according to the two dimensions of "utilitarian competition purpose" and "competitive tendency",the role types of college students in academic competition are mainly divided into the following categories: "transcendent development type","active struggle type","compromise and abandonment type",and "internal friction catch-up type".Among them, the "active struggle type" students have a clear goal in the academic competition-insurance research, and in the process of obtaining insurance research places, they are driven by the view of "tool rationality",often emphasizing the minimum effort to obtain the maximum gain. Therefore, they are results-oriented,adhere to the principle of "all for grade points",and often choose the most "cost-effective" learning method. In the learning process, they are time management masters, which are mainly manifested as "planning" and "running" of time.Students who "transcend the developmental type" pay great attention to selfrealization and discovery, and they are driven by "value rationality" in their actions. In academic competitions, they self-deprecatingly call themselves a salted fish with "dreams",and sometimes, their efforts are stigmatized as "rolls" by other classmates.College students who are "internal friction catch-up type" are often passively involved in academic competition, and they need to overpay to maintain their "precarious" position in the rankings, they call their lives an awkward "45° life",and the comparison of peers around them is both their self-driving fuel and a source of academic anxiety and stress. The "compromise and abandonment type" classmates fight against ineffective and vicious competition by "lying flat",and in their hearts, they are a gentle 0° life.Based on this, this study suggests: First, teachers should guide universities to view competition and cooperation physiologically, stimulate their willingness to cooperate, and guide college students to help and learn from each other, compete in cooperation, and cooperate in competition.Second, colleges and universities should set up a diversified evaluation system, strengthen process evaluation, improve comprehensive evaluation, and actively build an equal relationship between participating subjects.Third, college students should actively carry out self-exploration,pay attention to self-growth and gain, focus on personalized,long-term development paths.
