At present, how to comprehensively evaluate the potential of a young athlete involves relevant indicators such as bone age, physiology, biochemistry, physical fitness, and sports skills. The scoring standards for these general indicators play a decisive role in the future career development of young athletes. As China moves from a sports power to a sports power, research on the selection and training of young athletes continues to deepen. The full combination of subjective and objective evaluation indicators such as physiology, biochemistry, physical fitness, sports skills and relative age can more effectively assess the potential of a young basketball player, because this evaluation method can better identify outstanding and potential athletes in specific environments and development stages,Further improve the current talent selection model for young athletes. This study focuses on the impact of relative age effect on the selection of young basketball players in the five-player basketball competition(12-13 year old group)in the Youth Department of the 20 th Jiangsu Provincial Games.Using the methods of literature, expert interviews, testing, and mathematical statistics,To analyze and test whether there is a relative age effect among the youth basketball players participating in the Youth Department’s 5-player basketball competition(12-13 year old group)of the 20 th Jiangsu Provincial Games, explore the correlation between the sports performance of youth basketball players and their relative age,and determine whether the relative age effect has an impact on the sports performance of youth basketball players and the selection of coaches,Provide reliable theoretical support for the selection of young basketball players in the future, and promote the sustainable development of young basketball players in China. The results show that there is a significant relative age effect among the male and female youth basketball players who participated in the Youth Department 5-player basketball competition(12-13 year old group)of the 20 th Jiangsu Provincial Games; There was a significant positive correlation between the relative age of young male basketball players who participated in the Youth Department Five Player Basketball Competition of the 20 th Jiangsu Provincial Games(12-13 year old group)and their vertical jump(r=0.194),straight sprint(r=0.146),turn back sensitivity(r=0.006),left and right hand dribbling between shots(r=0.045),and half court left and right hand dribbling between turns(r=0.176)(p<0.05);There was no correlation(p<0.05)between the relative age of young women basketball players who participated in the Youth Department Five Player Basketball Competition(12-13 year old group)of the 20 th Jiangsu Provincial Games and the vertical jump(r=0.083),but there was a significant negative correlation(p<0.05)between the relative age of young women basketball players and the straight sprint(r=-0.219),the turn back sensitivity(r=-0.161),and the left and right hand dribbling and shooting(r=-0.172),There was a significant negative correlation(p<0.01)with the half court left and right hand dribbles hitting the line and turning back(r=-0.346);There was no correlation between the relative age of adolescent male athletes and female athletes in terms of 1 minute self shooting and self snatching(r=0.087,r=0.060)(p<0.05);Among the athletes selected for the Jiangsu Province Youth Men’s and Women’s Basketball Training Team, the chi-square value of the men’s team was χ2=1.387,p=0.709(p<0.05),and there was no difference between the relative age effect and the selection results of the men’s team; The chi-square value of the women’s team is χ2=12.259,p=0.007(p<0.05),and there is a significant difference between the relative age effect and the selection results of the women’s team;Among the athletes selected for the youth men’s basketball training team, there is a significant difference between the athletes’ quality test scores of the training team born in the third quarter and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.05),and there is a very significant difference between the athletes’ quality test scores of the training team born in the fourth quarter and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.01),There is a significant difference between the skill test scores of athletes born in the second quarter of the training team and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.05).There is a very significant difference between the skill test scores of athletes born in the third and fourth quarters of the training team and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.01);Among the athletes selected for the youth women’s basketball training team, there is a significant difference between the performance of the athlete quality test of the training team born in the first, second, and third quarters and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.05).There is a significant difference between the performance of the athlete quality test of the training team born in the fourth quarter and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.01).First There is a significant difference between the skill test scores of athletes born in the second quarter of the training team and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.05),and there is a very significant difference between the skill test scores of athletes born in the third and fourth quarters of the training team and the athletes of the same quarter who did not participate in the training(p<0.01).Research conclusion: Currently, the selection of young athletes requires precise age segmentation and detailed group division;Make up for the single standard of bone age testing, improve the maturity judgment mechanism, optimize the selection process, focus on selecting potential athletes, reduce the weight of physical fitness testing, and build a selection index system with technical weight as the core.Research suggestions:(1)Update the concept of talent selection, fully realize that the current superficial testing content cannot effectively reflect the true level of the youth athlete group, balance the allocation and sharing of training resources at all levels, and maximize the exploration and release of the potential of each youth athlete in training activities.(2)In the process of material selection, reduce the dependence on the physical quality indicators of athletes, build a test library of technical indicators of material selection with special technology as the core, dynamically select test items, minimize the impact of relative age on youth sports, and improve the success rate of China’s youth basketball players in material selection.(3)When formulating the training and development goals of young basketball players,we should reduce the primacy of competition results, attach importance to the cultivation of young players’ interests, advocate happy basketball, and eliminate the competitive soil that breeds relative age advantages to the maximum extent.(4)Improve and refine the age group classification criteria for training and competition of young athletes, introduce the relative age parameter, and minimize the negative impact of relative age on the selection of young athletes.Optimize the competition structure, innovate the competition form, create more training and competition activities for relative age athletes, and provide more opportunities for high-level training.
