A Comparative Study Of Beijing Dual Olympic Games Reports On China Daily English Website

As the world ’s largest sports event,the Olympic Games is one of the most influential media events in the world.How to convey its voice to the world is a major issue facing all media in the host country.In 2022,China successfully hosted the Olympic Games again,and Beijing became the first dual Olympic city in history.In the past 14 years,the global political and economic pattern has been differentiated and transformed,China ’s comprehensive national strength has continued to improve,and the media ecology has undergone earth-shaking changes.It is worth exploring whether the media communication strategy has changed accordingly.Compared with Chinese media,English mainstream media has a wider audience overseas and is an important window for the world to listen to China ’s voice.Therefore,this study selects China Daily English Network,the most influential national English media website in China,as the research object,collects and collates Beijing ’s ’ Double Olympic ’ reports on China Daily English Network.After data screening,400 reports are retained as the final research sample.Using content analysis,with the help of framework theory and agenda setting theory,the similarities and differences of Beijing ’s ’ Double Olympic ’ reports in content,form characteristics and important issues are sorted out.According to the analysis results,this paper explores the deep motivation behind it,discusses the problems existing in the report of Beijing ’s ’ Olympic Games ’ on the English website of China Daily,and gives suggestions on the promotion path of Olympic Games report.The study found that the news sources of Beijing ’s ’ Double Olympic ’ on the English website of China Daily are still mainly official channels,and the main characters of the report are athletes,and always highlight the international framework.In addition,there are different degrees of evolution in the reporting elements of form and content.Specific to the framework of important issues,the theme of gold medals has changed from emotional to objective and rational,the entertainment framework of athletes ’ theme lace has been replaced by the framework of sports spirit,and the political voice of evaluation theme has risen significantly.The study believes that the positioning of China Daily English as an official mainstream media and the pressure of news production that " seeking stability " and " seeking speed " are the main factors that continue its tradition.The transformation of its reporting strategy is influenced by the improvement of China ’s comprehensive national strength and the COVID-19 epidemic at the social environment level.In addition,the trend of fragmented communication at the media level and the rational return of public sentiment under the guidance of positive publicity at the audience level have also promoted the transformation of reporting.Based on the above research,this paper believes that there are some problems,such as single means of communication,lack of mass perspective,and shallow excavation of sports spirit,and puts forward some suggestions.
