| China has completed the demographic transition at the beginning of this century and entered the era of low fertility level, which is the basis for the study of population fertility issues. On the one hand, since the implementation of China’s "comprehensive two-child" policy in 2016,the discussion on the act of reproduction has increased, and the changes in fertility levels in the context of fertility policy have received widespread attention, and the discussion on the supporting policies for fertility has gradually deepened. However, the expected task of population fertility policy adjustment has not been completed, and the population fertility level is still at a low level, and the supporting policies for population fertility need to be increased urgently. On the other hand, intergenerational family support has weakened and the development of the gender division of labor in the family has lagged behind. As the size of family households decreases, intergenerational family support weakens, and the grandparental support available to families decreases, while women still take up the main share of household work and childcare. Therefore, against the background of long-term low fertility levels and long-term lagging development of intra-household gender division of labor, how to develop stronger supporting measures for fertility support and build a fertility-friendly society has become an important issue.According to Chinese national conditions, grandparental involvement in child rearing is a common pattern of family rearing,so this paper will mainly explore the influence of husband’s family contribution on the rearing behavior of dual-earner families, and the change of husband’s family contribution on family rearing behavior under the role of grandparental support. This paper uses data from the China Household Dynamics Tracking Survey(CFPS)for three periods in 2014,2016,and2018,and conducts an in-depth analysis using STATA 15.1 software. In terms of data processing, the paper is lagged in time to avoid reverse causality. The dependent variable second-child behavior was selected to form a mixed crosssection with 2018 data and 2016 data. The husband’s household contribution is operationalized into "economic contribution","household contribution",and "childcare contribution".In terms of model selection, this paper uses a binary logistic model to test the effect of husband’s household contribution on second-child behavior, and further tests the empirical results by using the substitution variable method in the robustness test.Based on the above data and model,it was found that(1)There is a positive effect of household contribution on reproductive behavior, and husbands’ participation in more household chores can save more time cost for wives, which is more conducive to the occurrence of reproductive decision.(2)There is a negative effect of childcare contribution on second-child behavior.Men lack the natural gender advantage in childcare, therefore, childcare will bring them more pressure, which leads to families not choosing to second-child.(3)Under the influence of grandparental support, the husband’s financial contribution had a stronger positive effect on reproductive behavior. In the case of grandparental support for child care,an important prerequisite for having a second child is financial security. At this time, the role of husband’s economic contribution is prominent.(4)Under the influence of grandparental support, there was a strong positive effect of husband’s domestic contribution on reproductive behavior.Husband’s domestic contribution was the "icing on the cake" when it was supported by grandparenting. Therefore, this paper puts forward relevant policy recommendations from two aspects. The first is to promote the harmonious development of families, including the construction of a multi-participant child care model of "government + market +family" and actively guiding the establishment of healthy family values. The second is to build a child-friendly environment, including improving the maternity leave system and treatment guarantee, accelerating the improvement of the housing guarantee system, and actively creating a child-friendly social environment. |
