This paper, taking the example of typical household division of household production history of BaiYun Village, Taihu County, Anqing City, Anhui Province in the three different historical stages of traditional period, Collectivization period and after the reform and opening-up policy, with the clue of the change of the division of labour of farmers, expounds the characteristics of farmers’ household production division of labour in different historical stages. In addition, the paper analyses the changing process of rural household division of labor, embodied by the changing power subjects, and the foundation of China’s rural system revealed by the changing division of labor. The paper argues that during the traditional period, the family is the basic unit of the division of household production; affected by the common practice, the division of labor isdominated by males. During the Collectivization period, the farmers’household production unit is the collective, the power to division of labor moved from the household to the collective as well, and it was operated by the captain of production teams. After the marketization reform, the power of labor division returned to the household, but at present there is a different pattern of labor division from the past. Under the influence of market economy, the power for division of labor is mainly dominated by "economically stronger member", namely the person with the ability to make the most money in the family.Based on the analysis, the paper points out that as "the foundation" of rural China, the household production system should be paid full attention to at present. The developmentalmodel of modernization demands the intrinsic value of the household system, actively learning from the intrinsic essence of the household system, giving full play to the inherent advantages of the household system and integrating the resources of the "foundation of the system" to construct a relation between the tradition and modern and improve rural production capacity and the way of rural development.
