With the continuous aggravation of the aging process in China, the aging problem in rural areas, where infrastructure for elderly care is relatively lagging, has become increasingly serious. This special group, namely rural elderly receiving scattered care,is particularly worth attention. The state severe feeding system ensures the basic material needs of this group, and their spiritual needs are also being addressed. However,at present, most of the care provided focuses on the material level, overlooking the needs for emotional support and social interaction, which have significantly affected the mental health and quality of life of the elderly. Therefore,it is urgent to address this issue and improve the social security system to provide better care for rural elderly receiving scattered care. This study took W Town in Z County as an example, based on the theory of the five layers of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and analyzed the problems and reasons for spiritual support among rural elderly receiving scattered care using a semi-structured interview method and participatory observation method. It was found that due to issues such as inadequate care from guardians and functory visits, the elderly in this community experienced insufficient emotional support, boring and single cultural and entertainment activities, and lack of social interaction. Therefore, this study used a social work team work method to intervene, under the guidance of the interpersonal needs theory of Shultz, and designed and conducted 7 group activities. This helped meet the spiritual support needs of the elderly. The study found that group work intervention can effectively meet the spiritual needs of rural decentralized support for the elderly people. The interpersonal need theory is an effective guidance theory for addressing spiritual comfort issues for rural decentralized support for the elderly people.Developing the elderly person’s interests and talents, teaching them health and longevity knowledge for healthy living, and increasing their interaction and help in building peer groups are effective ways to meet their social interaction needs. At the end of the article, the author summarizes the effectiveness and advantages of this group work and proposes recommendations, such as improving spiritual comfort related laws and regulations, exploring Chinese visitation mechanisms, strengthening Chinese spiritual comfort service personnel training, and helping rural elderly people establish positive and optimistic attitudes, from various aspects,to improve the spiritual comfort situation of rural decentralized support for the elderly people and enable them to enjoy a happy and fulfilling old age.
