A Study On Wang Xiangzhai’s Boxing Ideology

Chinese Wushu have developed for thousands of years in the land of China,embodying the wisdom of the Chinese people in defending their country,cultivating their own health,and valuing martial virtue.It serves as a spiritual pillar of the Chinese nation and gradually became an important representation of traditional Chinese culture.Although 129 styles of boxing were recognized during the large-scale exploration of boxing conducted by the National Sports Commission from1982 to 1986,only a few exceptional traditional boxing styles,such as Tai Chi and Shaolinquan,were widely promoted in the process of inheritance and development.In order to revitalize Chinese Wushu,Wang Xiangzhai created the Yiquan(Dachengquan)by integrating the strengths of various boxing styles and innovating its techniques,making it an excellent boxing style with abundant content and modern value that needs further promotion.Wang Xiangzhai’s boxing ideology runs through the development of Yiquan,therefore,researching Yiquan requires an understanding of Wang Xiangzhai’s boxing ideology.This research aims to conduct a deep exploration and interpretation of the origin,content,and modern value of Wang Xiangzhai’s boxing ideology through literature research,historical research,text analysis,brainstorming,and expert interviews,ultimately forming an overall image of Wang Xiangzhai’s boxing ideology.The introduction section provides a basis for the research topic,research objectives,significance,and methods.It also systematically sorts out relevant literature materials and defines related concepts,clarifying the research object and research methods.The section on "The Reasons for the Formation of Wang Xiangzhai’s Boxing Ideology" divides his boxing ideology into four stages: the origin,the pursuit of learning,the enlightenment of the way,and the great achievement.By referencing Wang Xiangzhai’s social relationships,work experiences,learning experiences from masters,and historical background,as well as systematically sorting out relevant materials,the ideas expressed in his philosophy are accurately extracted.The section on "The Content of Wang Xiangzhai’s Boxing Ideology" outlines the content of "boxing ideology" as "harmony between heaven and man","natural inaction","ultimate harmony and balance","shared destiny","patriotic feelings","form and spirit interconnectedness","balance and symmetry",and "self-revolution".These eight aspects are then deeply analyzed to present the overall image of Wang Xiangzhai’s boxing ideology.The section on "The Modern Value of Wang Xiangzhai’s Boxing ideology" roughly categorizes its modern value into three aspects: the value of self-defense and fitness,the value of guiding the innovative development of modern traditional Wushu,and the value of inspiring wisdom.By combining Wang Xiangzhai’s definition of the value of Yiquan,a maximum concentric circle of "beauty and sharing" is drawn.Finally,this research summarizes the content of Wang Xiangzhai’s boxing ideology and roots it in the excellent traditional Chinese culture to explore how to tell the story of Yiquan carrying the spirit of martial arts in the new era and promote the international dissemination of Yiquan.
