Wang Chengxu(1912-2013)is a famous educator and tenured professor at Zhejiang University.He introduced foreign educational thoughts,spread new concept of higher education and founded comparative education in China.He made great success in comparative education and higher education.In his 82 years' teaching career,he spent most of the time and energy into his education career,in writing the teaching materials of comparative education,undertaking subjects about comparative education of National Education Science Planning Office,cultivating more education graduate students,introducing and translating the foreign monographs about comparative education and higher education with his graduate students,visiting abroad and lecturing,etc.Based on the understanding of comparative education development abroad,and according to the development of comparative education discipline in China,Chengxu Wang defined the concept of comparative education,summarized the comparative education's basic feature of on "transnational and cross culture","interdisciplinary","comparison" as well as "practicality",formed the aim on "academic","reference" and "client" of comparative education,laid the basis of the methodology of dialectical materialism and historical materialism,introduced the foreign higher education and multidisciplinary research paradigm,created the methodology of system on "problem as weft,for The Times,based on our own,look around the world," began the history of comparative education research in our country,and made practice of "the expansion of object and content of comparative education research”,has formed comparative education system with Chinese characteristics.In this paper,we start from life and education activities of Wang Chengxu,analyze the era background,education background and academic career where his comparative education thoughts formed,and then investigate the formation process and main content of his comparative education thoughts.On the basis of the above study,we summarize the characteristics and contributions of Wang Chengxu's comparative education ideology,and thinks about the impact and significance of his comparative ideology on the future development of our country in this field.
