| The educational philosophy focuses on answering the fundamental question of who to cultivate people,who to cultivate,and how to cultivate people,and it reflects people’s understanding of "education should be" under certain social values.The idea of journalism education is the "compass" of journalism education practice.It directly guides the cultivation of journalistic talents and exerts an important influence on the journalism industry and all sectors of society through its graduates,so it is worthy of attention.Journalism education in Chinese Christian universities is a page that cannot be ignored in the history of journalism education in China.Its journalism education philosophy and practice have an important impact on journalism education in China and modern society.This article focuses on the philosophy of journalism education in Christian universities in China,focusing on the three universities of Yenching University,St.John’s University,and Shanghai University,combining the background of the times,historical facts,and key figures,to investigate and analyze the basic composition,personalized adjustment,and specific practice of the educational philosophy of Chinese Christian universities,as well as the reference to today’s educational reform and cross-cultural communication.The study found that the "Missouri Model" was deeply influenced by the establishment of journalism education in the Church University of China in the early 1920 s.They take "pragmatism" as the core,based on the shortage of news talents and the important role of the news media in modernization and national liberation,they highlight practical ability education,general education,and professional ethics education in talent training,putting forward the educational concept of "cultivating social service talents" as the educational purpose,"specialized and comprehensive" news talents as the training goal,and the localized Missouri education model as the training path,and through the first-class teaching staff,diverse curriculum,rich practice forms to implement.In addition to the commonalities,it is worth noting that the three mission universities have also made individual adjustments to the "Missouri Model" according to the characteristics of their own resources and the needs of Chinese society.Yenching University actively integrates into the adjustment and actively adapts to the needs of Chinese society.St.John’s University tends to be conservative and stable,and the development of journalism education is declining.Hujiang University is trying to develop and innovate,and move towards a subdivision and civilian development path.The development process of the journalism education concepts of the three universities is a microcosm of the development of Chinese journalism education concepts from transplanting to the United States to localization.They reminded journalism education standing at a new starting point of reform to have the courage to innovate and the ability to expand new forms of school media,and also reminded Chinese culture that wants to "go global" to adhere to localized communication strategies and timely communication methods. |
