The wide application of digital technology and the rapid development of Internet,mobile phones and other new media have changed the information transition oftraditional media, media convergence has become the main distinct characteristics ofcurrent media ecology, and both the journalism industry and education are trying toadapt to this trend in the worldwide.Education provides talent guarantee for news agency and journalistic activities, andit’s also the “upstream process” of the news and media. As the first country whichdeveloped journalism education, how American conducting the revolution ofpostgraduate education idea and training mode in the background of media convergencenow, in order to adjust to the changing trend? While China’s journalism andcommunication postgraduate education exist what deficiencies and countermeasures?This paper will discuss the problem.First, by introducing the concept of “media convergence” and “journalism andcommunication education”, we will understand the present trend of mediaconvergence in American media industry. With the appearance of “convergencejournalism”, the entire media talents who can master various kinds of reporting skillsgrowing up, the qualities and technical abilities they have become the urgent need formedia groups, these also provide a direction for the revolution of journalism education.Secondly, after a comparison of the comprehension and cognition of journalismand communication postgraduate education between China and America, the studyproposes the similarities and differences in training model of the postgraduate studentsbetween the two countries, including the training objectives, the training process, thetrain evaluation, and many other aspects.Then, the paper analyses the reform of professional curriculum design, takesexamples of the Journalism school in Columbia University etc. And discuss the teachingmethod of contrast between the two countries’ journalism and communication graduateeducation.Finally, based on the comparison and analysis above, the study puts forward for theachievements and deficiencies of China’s postgraduate education in journalism andcommunication education, and what strategies can we learn from the American’seducation reform in this field.
