In today’s rapid urbanization, the regional characteristics in people are gradually disappearing.Sense of place is a product of human-place interaction, and a positive sense of place gives people a sense of belonging, which is conducive to the transmission of regional culture and sustainable local development.High school students are in a critical period of growth and exploration of their identity,as well as a period of vigorous intellectual development.A sense of place can stimulate students’ sense of civic responsibility and participation,so that they can take the initiative to take up the important mission of local development and construction and environmental protection, and therefore it is of practical significance to study high school students’ sense of place. This study takes Yangjiang City,Guangdong Province,as the study area, and takes high school students in Yangjiang City as the research object to investigate the current situation of students’ sense of place and the factors that affect it.Based on the literature study, the sense of place scale developed by Jorgensen and Stedmen and the curriculum experience scale developed by Johnson were selected as the survey instruments, and the questionnaire was administered to 555 high school students in 14 high schools in Yangjiang City after making minor changes to the scale according to the actual situation.Using spss software, the sample data were analyzed by reliability test, descriptive analysis, independent sample t-test,one-way ANOVA and other research methods.Based on the analysis results, strategies for cultivating a sense of place among high school students in Yangjiang City were proposed. The results of this study on the sense of place of high school students in Yangjiang City are as follows:(1)The overall level of sense of place among high school students in Yangjiang City is high,in which students have the highest level of place attachment, the second highest level of place identity, and the lowest level of place dependence;(2)The influence of students’ personal characteristics on sense of place: male students have significantly higher levels of each dimension of sense of place than female students;senior students have significantly higher levels of place attachment than freshmen and sophomores;students born in Yangjiang have significantly higher levels of place identity and place attachment than foreign students;students who have lived in Yangjiang for more than 5 years have significantly higher levels of each dimension of sense of place than students who have lived for less than 5 years;students who live in the main city and near Students living in the main and near urban areas had significantly higher levels of place attachment than students living in distant urban areas.(3)Students’ geography course experience was significantly related to their sense of place, and students with good geography course experience had significantly higher levels of each dimension of sense of place than students with average geography course experience.Based on the above findings, the following strategies for cultivating a sense of place for high school students in Yangjiang are proposed:(1)Incorporating local cases in the teaching process in order to increase students’ local knowledge and grasp the general overview of the local geographical environment;(2)Conducting diversified geography practice courses to increase students’ local interactive experiences and develop their interest in local inquiry and inquiry skills;(3)Conducting place-based project-based learning to solve practical local problems and cultivate students’ sense of identity and responsibility for place.
