In today’s society, the national economy is developing steadily, and with the significant increase of residents’ income, people have a higher pursuit of their living standard and start to contact and pay attention to more domestic and international large-scale sports events after work. The cognition and attitude of the residents in the places where sports events are held reflect the residents’ willingness to participate in the events at a certain level, which directly affects the smooth holding and ultimate benefit of the events, and is also an important decision-making basis for the government and the organizers to realize the win-win development of the sports events and the host cities.Starting from the relationship between people and place, this study analyzes the sense of place of Zhengzhou residents and its influencing factors based on urban marathon events, with the aim of improving the level of residents’ sense of place, strengthening their reliance on and identification with the place and their support for the events,so that Zhengzhou sports events can gain longer-term development.Based on the combing of relevant literature at home and abroad, this study uses the human-place theory to classify the dimensions of sense of place, specifically into place dependence, place identity and event support.Based on the theory and the characteristics of the research subjects,we designed questionnaires, collected sample data by means of questionnaires, and used SPSS 26.0 statistical analysis software to study the sense of place of Zhengzhou residents and the differences in the sense of place of residents with different socio-demographic characteristics through descriptive statistical analysis, reliability validity test, independent sample t-test,and one-way ANOVA,and investigated and analyzed the sense of place of Zhengzhou residents factors. The following conclusions were drawn:(1)Gender characteristics differ in terms of sense of place. The differences in the sense of place developed by residents of different genders are more pronounced, with male residents having a higher sense of place and all three constituent dimensions than female residents.(2)Familiarity affects the differences in residents’ sense of place. There is a significant difference in the sense of place of residents in the city where the urban marathon is held in terms of the length of residence. As the length of residence increases, the degree of knowledge about the city and the degree of awareness of the event also increases, and the overall performance shows that the longer the residents live, the stronger their sense of place, the higher the degree of functional dependence on the city, and the higher the emotional identity.(3)There are differences in the factors influencing the sense of place of residents with different characteristics.Among the race function factors, women are stronger than men;local residents are higher than foreign residents;residents over 40 years old pay more attention to the race function;high school and secondary school education is most influenced by the race;the higher the average monthly income level is,the higher the influence is.Among the human landscape factors, higher education is positively related to higher attention.Among the social respect, residents over 50 years old have the greatest demand for socializing;self-employed,students,and other occupations have the least demand.Among the natural environment factors, residents over 50 years old pay more attention to the comfort level of natural environment;farmers are the most affected;with the increase of income level,it shows a trend of rising and then falling.Based on the conclusion, development suggestions such as mobilizing mass participation and enhancing the sense of place of female residents are proposed in order to bring into play the value of urban events and provide theoretical reference and practical guidance for the development of sports events.
