Frugality,as an important part of morality, plays an important role in both individuals and society. On the individual level, frugality is conducive to strengthening the willpower, restraining the pursuit of material desires and establishing a correct consumptive view.As for society, the promotion of frugality can not only promote the concept of ecological civilization construction but also contribute to the realization of sustainable development goals. It is necessary to carry out the research on frugality for we Chinese people behave not in a frugal way.The research on frugality mainly focused on the current situation of frugality cultivating among college students, lack of research on the status quo and internalization mechanism of frugality among adolescents. In addition, the previous researches on frugality mostly discussed the influence of internal factors on frugality, with few scholars discussing the influence of external environmental factors on frugality.Adolescence is a key period to develop morality, and adolescents are the main force of ecological civilization construction and sustainable development in China. Therefore, under the guidance of social observation learning theory and theory of moral-social interaction, this study explored the influence of demonstration and interaction(with feedback as the core)on frugality.Demonstration is a guide to action.Different from demonstration, the main function of feedback is to correct the wrong answer, not to reinforce the right answer.Demonstration and feedback complement each other to promote the development of adolescent moral behavior habits.Based on this, the following three studies were conducted. The first study used a questionnaire to measure 453 junior middle school students to explore the influence of demographic variables on frugality. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the total score of frugality among gender, grade and family location. The total score of frugality was significantly different in religious belief. The junior middle school students with religious belief had a higher level of frugality than those without religious belief. The second study adopted single factor between-subjects experiment design with demonstrations as the independent variable, consistency as the dependent variable, belongingness needs as the moderated variable to test the effect of demonstrations on adolescents’ behaviors and the moderating effect of belongingness needs. The results showed that there were significant differences in behavioral consistency between frugality demonstration group and non-frugality demonstration group and the influence of non-frugality demonstration on juvenile’ behavior is far more than that of frugality demonstration.Belongingness needs moderated the influence of demonstration on behavioral consistency. The third study adopted single factor in-subject experiment design to test the effect of interaction on adolescents’ frugality with feedback levels(positive feedback including praise and criticism vs.negative feedback including neglect)as the independent variables and the possibility of frugal behavior in future. It was found that praise made teenagers more likely to act frugally in future than criticism and neglect.Generally speaking, the development of frugality in middle school students is epochal.Demonstrations and feedbacks,as external environmental factors, influence individual behavior, and belongingness needs moderate the influence of demonstrations on behavior.
