The Impact Of Population Agglomeration On Common Prosperity

Common prosperity is an essential requirement of socialism with Chinese characteristics and a significant feature of China’s modernization.The expansion and equitable distribution of the "cake" are necessary for achieving common prosperity.People are fundamental to realizing common prosperity and exploring the impact of population agglomeration on common prosperity is of profound significance.This article describes the current situation of population agglomeration and common prosperity in Guangdong Province from 2007 to 2019,using panel data from 21 cities in Guangdong Province.It empirically analyzes the impact of population agglomeration on common prosperity and draws the following conclusions:(1)Increasing population agglomeration promotes the expansion and equitable distribution of the "cake" and thereby enhances the level of common prosperity.This effect is more significant in the Pearl River Delta region than in non-Pearl River Delta regions.(2)The analysis of influencing mechanisms shows that the level of innovation plays an intermediary role in the impact of population agglomeration on common prosperity.Population agglomeration promotes the expansion and equitable distribution of the "cake" by increasing the level of innovation,thereby enhancing the level of common prosperity.(3)Spatial econometric regression finds that there is significant spatial correlation in the level of common prosperity in Guangdong Province.The improvement in the level of common prosperity,the expansion of the "cake," and the equitable distribution of the "cake" in one area have a significant spillover effect on the surrounding areas.At the same time,the increase in population agglomeration promotes the expansion and equitable distribution of the "cake" in the surrounding areas,thereby enhancing the level of common prosperity.Based on these conclusions,this article proposes recommendations to improve the labor market,guide the rational and orderly flow of labor,promote the development of underdeveloped areas,promote regional balanced development,and emphasize innovation to achieve innovative development.
