| The great development of material civilization promotes the change of human thinking, which includes people’s views on family and marriage. At present, the traditional family structure and marriage relationship are undergoing drastic changes, and a large number of single-parent families have been born behind the freedom and openness of marriage. As a non-mainstream family structure,single-parent families face multiple problems, among which the problem of parent-child relationship is the most prominent. How to improve the parent-child relationship of single-parent families has become a topic of common concern for families and society.Based on the perspective of social work, this study explores the applicability and effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy in improving parent-child relationships in single-parent families. In this study, the parent and children of the L family in Nanjing are used as clients, and cognitive behavioral therapy is used as the intervention mode to provide case services.First of all, this research adopts semi-structured interview method, scale measurement method and observation method to collect data to estimate the family situation and parent-child relationship problems of the clients, and initially found that the parent-child relationship problems faced by the clients involve parent-child communication and parent-child conflict.Parent-child communication problems include insufficient language communication and lack of entertainment activities, while parent-child conflict problems include verbal conflict and emotional conflict. The clients’ parent-child relationship problems are also accompanied by corresponding behaviors, such as parent’s abusive behavior and children’s door-slamming behavior. The researchers analyzed the causes at the individual and family levels. The reasons at the personal level include irrational cognition between parent and children, the other is that parent and children have low adaptability to single parent family. The reasons at the family level include the greater financial pressure of the family and unscientific parenting method left by the original family.Regarding the parent-child relationship of the clients, the researcher has participated in the formulation of the service plan with the clients on the basis of respecting the autonomy of the clients.During the intervention, the researchers used the techniques and strategies of cognitive behavioral therapy, such as cognitive reconstruction,three-column note-taking,relaxation training, homework assignments, and role-playing to carry out services.Researchers gradually guide clients to identify surface-level wrong thinking and core cognitive deviations and reconstruct rational cognition. After cognitive reconstruction, the researchers used a series of behavioral training techniques to intervene in family education, helping clients learn and master scientific parenting methods. After the intervention is complete, the researcher adopts the method of result evaluation to evaluate the effect from three aspects which include interview evaluation, scale evaluation and observation evaluation. The evaluation results show that through the intervention of cognitive behavioral therapy on the clients, the clients’ parent-child cognition and family education methods are improved, the parent-child relationship problem is solved, the parent-child relationship is improved, and the family function is restored. The study found that the advantages of cognitive behavioral therapy in the improvement of parent-child relationship in single-parent families are mainly reflected in the core concept of social work and the fundamentals of treatment. However, the application of this model is also inadequate. On the one hand,it requires a high degree of participation and trust in the service target. On the other hand,it ignores the influence of other social and policy factors on the parent-child relationship. In addition, the researchers reflected on the ethical dilemmas in the process of practice, involving how to protect the privacy of the clients and how to deal with the dual relationship between the clients and the social worker. On the whole, cognitive behavioral therapy can effectively improve the parent-child relationship of single-parent families. It can change the irrational parent-child perception of the clients, establish a positive view of the family and a scientific way of family education, and improve the parent-child relationship of single-parent families from both cognitive and behavioral aspects. The further discussion of this research lies in two aspects. On the one hand, the stability and continuity of practical effects and the applicability of research conclusions and reflections need further follow-up work to be tested. On the other hand, how to mobilize support at the government level and intervene from multiple perspectives provide directions for future research. |
