With the rapid advancement of information technology,the news reporting mode has changed from print media to mobile news clients,and with the "decentralization" feature of the Internet,women have also realized more media access rights.Therefore,women’s issues have gradually become the focus of mass media.Online news media plays an important role in shaping female media image,which can show a more contemporary female media image and influence the audience’s perception of the real female image in reality,and is an important vehicle for female media image research.This study adopts the literature analysis method,case study method and content analysis method from gender theory,and takes the news with women as the main subject of reports published in The Paper from January 1 to December 31,2022 as the main research object,mainly exploring the types of women’s media images shaped in online news,the influencing factors as well as the problems and optimization path analysis therein.The main text includes four sections: in the first part,this study used the constructive weekly sampling method to sample the women-related news reports of The Paper,and analyzed the content of 480 valid samples in terms of reporting tendency,reporting topics,reporting genres and reporting forms,and the distribution of public and private spheres of reporting characters.In the second part,based on the analysis of the content of the reports,we analyzed the typical media images of women in the current online news from positive and negative perspectives,and concluded that the negative images include: the hurt helpers,the "stigmatized" characteristic groups,and the impulsive low-intelligent people;the positive images include: the devotees of family life,the best in the professional field,and those who struggle against hardship.The third section discusses the factors influencing the image of women in online news,including the negative influences on the continuation of the traditional gender order and the positive influences on the rise of new gender power.The fourth section discusses the current problems in the portrayal of women in online news,concluding that online news has problems of stereotyping,objectification and media ethics failure in women’s news coverage,and proposes ways to optimize them from three aspects:balancing coverage topics,popularizing the concept of gender equality and controlling news content.
