| In recent years, with the full penetration of the Internet into production and life, the implementation of the “Internet+” strategy has become an important initiative for China’s high-quality development. For the tourism industry, the Internet has changed the production mode of the tourism industry, giving rise to a large number of new employment models and new business modes, and the tourism labor market has undergone great changes. In order to explore how Internet development affects tourism employment, the article constructs an evaluation system of Internet development level using provincial panel data, and empirically analyzes the impact of Internet development on tourism employment using a two-way fixed effects model.Further, the impact of the Internet on individuals varies, and it is difficult to capture how the Internet would affect individuals working in tourism using only provincial panel data. Therefore, the article further explores the impact of Internet use on tourism employment choices from the micro-individual level based on identifying the effect of Internet on tourism employment by removing the interference of confounding variables through PSM method and constructing logistic dichotomous models to confirm the probability of tourism practitioners choosing self-employment or employed employment under the influence of Internet.Based on the above analysis, the following conclusions are drawn at the macro level: First, there is a non-linear relationship between the impact of Internet development on tourism employment, which shows a pattern of “strengthening and then weakening”.Second, there is industry heterogeneity in the impact of Internet development on tourism employment, and the non-linear impact of Internet on tourism employment is significant in cultural manufacturing, cultural services and accommodation, but not in other tourism sub-sectors.Third,there is a significant non-linear effect of Internet development on tourism employment in economically developed and economically less developed regions, while it is not significant in economically developed regions in general.Fourth, there are skill differences in the impact of Internet development on tourism employment;the impact of Internet development on high-skilled tourism employment groups shows a non-linear characteristic, while it shows a linear characteristic for low-skilled tourism employment groups.Fifth, tourism market attractiveness has a mediating effect, and Internet development can improve tourism employment by enhancing the tourism market attractiveness of each region.Further, the article draws the following four conclusions at the micro level: first,Internet use can significantly increase the probability that an individual tourist worker chooses to be employed for employment.Second,Internet use has a significant impact on the labor force of different skills, but the probability of being employed is higher for high-skilled labor than for low-skilled labor.Third,Internet use can significantly affect the employment choice of prime age labor force, but the effect on young and old labor force is not significant.Fourth, access to employment information and building social networks are important transmission mechanisms through which the Internet affects individuals’ employment choices.Based on the above macro-and micro-level analyses, the article concludes with corresponding policy recommendations. |
