With the implementation of the new curriculum reform, there had been an increasing amount of research on core literacies in geography.Regional cognition is one of the four core literacies in geography derived from the regional nature of geography, and is the way of thinking that people use to understand complex geographical environments. The cultivation of core literacy in Geography ultimately had to be implemented in the region,so enhancing students’ regional cognition is the key to implementing core literacy. The research content of geography includes the spatial distribution pattern, temporal evolution process and regional characteristics of geographical elements, among which "geographical distribution" can well reflect the spatial and regional nature of geography, which has a high degree of fit with regional cognition and is an important content of geography teaching. Therefore,in the context of the new curriculum reform,it is crucial to explore the teaching strategies of "geographical distribution" to develop students’ regional cognition.Based on this, the literature research method is used to sort out the relevant domestic and international literature on "geographical distribution" and regional cognition, and to analyze the correlation between the two on the basis of concept definition and dimensional classification,so as to clarify the feasibility of teaching "geographical distribution" to cultivate regional cognition. The next step is to investigate and analyze the current situation of teaching "geographical distribution" in senior secondary schools through classroom observation and questionnaires, and to propose teaching strategies for teaching "Geographical distribution" in high school that develop regional awareness."The research results show that:(1)"Geographical distribution" can be divided into four areas: facts of geographical distribution, causes of geographical distribution, laws of geographical distribution, effects of geographical distribution and decision making.Regional cognition is an important quality of thinking and ability in geography and is of great value to the study of’geographical distribution’."Geographical distribution and regional cognition are interdependent and mutually reinforcing.(2)The survey found that the current teaching of "geographical distribution" in senior secondary schools is able to present the facts of geographical distribution visually and help students to perceive the distribution characteristics and regional elements of geographical events, but the following problems still exist.Firstly, the regional perspective is not considered enough in the interpretation of geographical concepts;secondly, the analysis of regional characteristics in the teaching of the causes of geographical distribution needs to be further studied;thirdly, the transfer and application of geographical distribution laws need to be strengthened;fourthly, the depth of regional decision-making teaching needs to be improved.(3)Taking the requirements of regional cognition as a guide and following the principles of regional-based,scale-oriented and map-oriented,the following teaching strategies for "geographical distribution" are proposed.Recognize the spatial characteristics of geographical concepts and visualize the facts of geographical distribution;analyze the characteristics of regions from the surface to the inside and collaboratively explore the causes of geographical distribution;focus on regional comparisons and regional links and generalize the laws of geographical distribution for migration;highlight the sustainable development of regions and reasonably evaluate the impact of regional layout and decision-making.
