The Research On Yang Zhensheng’s Higher Education Thought And Practice

Yang Zhensheng was a famous writer and educator in modern China.Yang Zhensheng studied at an old-style private school,a new-style primary school and a new-style middle school successively.Then he was admitted to Peking University and went to the United States to study after graduation.After returning to China,Yang Zhensheng has worked in colleges and universities for a long time,with rich practical experience and theoretical literacy.In National Tsing Hua University,he assisted Luo Jialun to reform the school affairs,and reformed the Department of Chinese Literature with Zhu Ziqing,leading the department of Chinese literature to a new direction.At the National Qingdao University,he participated in the preparation of the university and served as the president of the university.He recruited a large number of famous scholars and organized various academic activities.At the Southwestern Associated University,he expanded the influence of the new literature by teaching related courses and participating in the compilation of textbooks.Yang Zhensheng has contributed a lot to literary education and higher education in our country.Yang Zhensheng has formed rich ideas of higher education in his practice activities.First,in terms of university system,Yang Zhensheng insisted that universities should be strict.Universities should have strict discipline,establish and improve various rules and regulations,set up relevant organizations such as university affairs meetings,and the president should be the first to abide by the law and play an exemplary role.Students were also required to be very strict in their studies.Secondly,in terms of teaching methods,Yang Zhensheng paid attention to inspiring and democratic teaching methods,and was good at mobilizing students’ learning enthusiasm.Third,in terms of the guarantee of running a university,Yang Zhensheng believed that there were at least five aspects to run a good university: ideal environment,good faculty,ideal equipment,ideal students and the responsibility of the university.Fourth,in terms of school-running characteristics,Yang Zhensheng believed that "liberal arts and science do not separate",advocating communication between liberal arts and science,making use of geographical conditions to give play to local advantages,and developing specialty with characteristics.Fifthly,in the relationship between teachers and students,Yang Zhensheng not only gived full guidance in study,but also paid attention to students in life.For his relationship and love,the students he taught still miss and appreciate him after many years.The characteristics of Yang Zhensheng’s thought and practice of higher education are: national consciousness is the soul;advocate strict school management and never give up educational democracy and freedom;set up disciplines and specialties in light of local conditions to serve society;promote the modernization of higher education with new literature education.The value of Yang Zhensheng’s higher education thought and practice is that he led the development of modern higher education,adhered to the spirit of academic freedom,and paid attention to the idea of "liberal arts and science without separation of family".
