| Preschool children’s narrative skills are important for children’s development, not only for predicting children’s future academic achievement, but also for their interpersonal and thinking development. Most studies have used narrative assessment tools to analyze the developmental characteristics of children’s narratives, but they have mostly borrowed from foreign assessment tools, and fewer have developed narrative assessment tools for the Chinese educational context. The core experiences of narrative are the knowledge, abilities, and learning qualities that children aged 3-6years need in the process of narrative telling, yet there is still a lack of a specific and operational assessment system for children’s narrative development based on the core experiences. In this study, the four dimensions of core experiences were used as the theoretical conceptualization, combined with domestic and international evaluation standards of preschool children’s narrative competence, and developed the Narrative Ability Assessment Framework for Children Aged 3-6 Years(NABC)based on core experiences, and tested its reliability and validity;this tool was then used to assess the developmental level of narrative competence of 125 preschool children aged 3-6 years in City H,Province Z.The analysis of preschool children aged 3-6 years age differences and gender differences in the development of narrative competence on each dimension, and analyze the reasons for these differences.Focus on the following issues.1.what are the measurement indicators of the Core Experience-Based Assessment Framework for Children’s Narrative Competence 3-6 years old in the actual educational context of kindergarten?2.What are the current characteristics of the narrative competence of kindergarten children aged 3-6? What are the developmental characteristics? The results of the study show that: 1.The Core Experience-based Assessment Framework for Children’s Narrative Competence of 3-6 years old has good measurement indicators, good reliability and stability.2.The assessment of children’s narrative competence of 3-6 years old based on the Core Experience-based Assessment Framework for Children’s Narrative Competence of 3-6 years old found that preschool children’s narrative competence and each dimension had significant linear growth over time and showed There were significant individual differences in children’s narrative abilities and dimensions between the ages of 3.3 and 5.5 years,as well as significant individual differences in the growth rate of narrative abilities and dimensions between the ages of 3 and 6 years.4 The trends in the development of narrative abilities of children at different levels between the ages of 3 and 6 years were complex, with changes being particularly unstable in the younger classes and the older classes being an important time for children with lower abilities to improve their narrative abilities. The older classes are an important period for children with lower abilities to improve their narrative skills. The study proposes the following educational recommendations: 1.recognize the characteristics of children’s narrative development between the ages of 3 and 6 and seize the critical period;2.use appropriate methods to assess children’s narrative abilities and provide individualized scaffolding;3.support and guide children’s narrative development in their daily lives. |
