Geography Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)(hereinafter collectively referred to as 2022 Edition Curriculum Standard)proposes that "geography tools should be integrated into the curriculum",and junior high school geography textbooks should be revised in time with the changes in this Standard.As an important component of junior high school geography textbooks,the rationality of the content arrangement of geography tools in geography textbook directly affects the implementation of geography curriculum objectives.Thus,it is important to evaluate and optimize the "geography tools" of junior high school textbooks under revision.The learning progression theory focuses on the development process of students’ cognition and ability,which shares the above requirements and can provide guidance for this study.Based on the above considerations,this study intends to solve the following questions:Firstly,what requirements does the 2022 Edition Curriculum Standard have for geography tools? Secondly,how to organically integrate the learning progression theory with the requirements of standard for geography tool in order to construct an evaluation framework?Thirdly,how to evaluate the layout of “geography tool” in junior high school textbooks?Fourthly,how to make targeted optimization suggestions based on the evaluation results?In order to address the four main questions raised above,this study will follow the following steps: Firstly,on the basis of a systematic review of the current situation of domestic and international research,the main contents and methods of this study are determined,core concepts such as geographical tool are defined and the guiding theory of this study is elaborated.Secondly,the content analysis method is applied to extract the geography tool in the 2022 Edition Curriculum Standard.Then,the evaluation framework of geography tools in junior high school textbooks is constructed by using expert consultation methods to evaluate the presentation of "geography tools" in compulsory geography textbook published by Science Popularization Press.Finally,the main strengths of this textbook’s geography tool layout are condensed with the evaluation results,and optimization strategies are proposed in terms of both textbook compilation and teaching implementation.After evaluation and analysis,the following conclusions were drawn in total.In the dimension of geographic tool types,the evaluation results are as follows:(1)the arrangement of geography tools corresponds to the content requirements of curriculum standard and the types of geography tool have been refined;(2)the functions of different columns are clear and special columns are set up to introduce geography tool;(3)the textbooks are advanced reasonably and the internal topic cycle is advanced.The evaluation results in the dimension of tool use subjects are as follows:(1)geography tools are organized to meet the content requirements of the standards and focus on students’ independent operation;(2)most of the columns need to be completed independently and the geography practice still needs guidance;(3)the textbooks deviate from the progression presumptions and had no significant internal progression.In the dimension of tool use situation,the evaluation results are as follows:(1)geography tools are arranged to correspond to the content requirements of the standards and are aimed at guiding students to explore in depth;(2)column arrangement points to problem solving and a few activities are open-ended;(3)the textbooks are advanced reasonably and the distribution of levels tends to be balanced.As for the functional dimension of geographical tools,the evaluation results are as follows:(1)the arrangement of geography tools corresponds to the content requirements of standard and the thematic tasks still need to be clarified;(2)columns are conducive to cognitive development and columns work in conjunction with each other;(3)geography tool choreography jumps progression in the skill dimension and the emotional function of geography tools still needs to be explored.Combined with the evaluation results,the “geography tool” of the compulsory geography textbook published by Science Popularization Press have the following advantages:(1)the geography tool setting of the junior high school textbook meets the requirements of standard;(2)geography tools show the characteristics of multi-column penetration;(3)geography tools present columns with unique features;(4)geography tools are arranged with attention to learning progression.In addition,this study proposes optimization strategies in terms of both textbook compilation and teaching implementation to address the shortcomings.In terms of textbook compilation,the textbook writers can optimize the progression of the textbook from the structure of the stylistic structure,the analysis of the progression and the details of the columns.In terms of teaching implementation,the following ways can be used to improve the progression effect of geography tool:(1)setting up the awareness of geography tool progression to optimize the effect of progression;(2)bringing out the subjective initiative of teaching to make up for the limitation of textbook tool progression;(3)digging deeper into the value of the column to help the tools achieve their emotional function;(4)paying attention to the column level cooperation to promote the implementation of the content requirements of the curriculum.
