Socio-Scientific Issues(SSI)refers to a series of social problems caused by modern science and technology.Classroom teaching based on SSI is called SSI teaching.SSI teaching can give students more opportunities for discussion,reasoning and decision-making,help them to understand the nature of science(NOS),improve their informal reasoning abilities and form correct ethical and moral concepts.As the current research hotspot of science education in the world,a large number of foreign studies have shown that SSI teaching can effectively improve students’ view of NOS.Therefore,this study aims to explore the impact of chemistry teaching based on SSI on junior middle school students’ view of NOS under the background of Chinese culture,and further improve China’s localized SSI teaching theory.Specifically,the paper mainly carried out the following work.Firstly,using the literature research method,consulted the relevant literature of SSI and the concept of NOS,analyzed the research status at home and abroad,and clarified the research purpose and significance.On this basis,put forward the teaching design ideas and strategies based on SSI teaching,and carried out the chemistry teaching design based on SSI.Based on the above teaching design,carried out the teaching practice based on SSI,surveyed and interviewed the students.Finally,analyzed the classroom performance,questionnaire and interview results,draw the research conclusion,and put forward reasonable suggestions for the implementation of SSI teaching in chemistry classroom teaching.The conclusions are as follows:(1)junior middle school students’ views of NOS is low and unbalanced.(2)SSI teaching is conducive to the development of junior middle school students’ view of NOS.Students show significant differences in their understanding of "based on evidence","the difference between observation and inference","the relationship between scientific theory and law" and "creativity".(3)In SSI chemistry teaching,the improvement of students’ view of NOS is mainly affected by the following factors: life-oriented teaching situation,open scientific inquiry activities,explicit teaching of NOS and teaching of history of science.Therefore,it is suggested that teachers should choose SSI that are both life,controversial and scientific in chemistry teaching,do not avoid the limitations of science and technology,make rational use of chemistry history for teaching,and improve the participation and openness of classroom activities,so as to give full play to the value of SSI teaching and improve students’ scientific literacy.
