| Although the current moral education has been placed in the primary position of education and received unprecedented attention,it still faces a practical dilemma of insufficient effectiveness. The core reason is that the current moral education overemphasizes external regulations and obscures the subjectivity and consciousness of the moral subject. This heteronomy style of moral education is difficult to achieve the intrinsic requirements of moral purposiveness,so it is urgent to achieve a self-discipline shift. As early as over 800 years ago,Zhu Xi proposed a moral concept characterized by moral self-discipline,which is rooted in the ancient tradition of Chinese Confucian moral education and contains unique educational wisdom and moral value. It can provide theoretical reference and practical enlightenment for contemporary moral education across time and space. The research mainly adopts the literature research method and comparative analysis method to study systematically and analyze deeply Zhu Xi’ s moral self-discipline view and its contemporary value. The literature analysis method mainly aims to clarify and master the basic framework of Zhu Xi’ s moral self-discipline concept through comprehensive collection, systematic arrangement, careful study, and in-depth analysis of relevant literature on Zhu Xi’ s moral thought, educational thought, and overall thought, including first-hand literature materials including Zhu Xi’ s original works, and second and third hand literature materials related to the research of Zhu Xi’ s thought by relevant scholars. The types of literature materials include books, journal papers, master’ s doctoral papers, etc. The comparative analysis method adopts a combination of horizontal comparison and vertical comparison, and compares Zhu Xi’ s moral self-discipline view with contemporary moral thoughts and modern moral thoughts,in order to better perspective and insight into Zhu Xi’ s moral self-discipline thought. The research mainly follows the logic of the background and development context of the formation of the concept of moral self-discipline,what is moral self-discipline,why it is established, how it is achieved, and its implications for contemporary school moral education. The first part is the background and development context of the formation of Zhu Xi’ s concept of moral self-discipline,mainly from three aspects: the social background, ideological origin, and development context. The second part is “What is moral self-discipline”,which includes four aspects: the subject can consciously identify with social moral norms, has moral needs and motivations, has the ability to self supervise and control, and independently chooses the correct moral behavior. The third part is about Zhu Xi’ s “why is moral self-discipline established”,including the possibility and necessity of moral self-discipline,the fact that the mind has multiple principles and the dominant and subjective functions, confirming the subjective status of the mind, reflecting the possibility of moral self-discipline,and the emergence of evil in human nature, reflecting the necessity of moral self-discipline,thereby proving the establishment of moral self-discipline.The fourth part is about “how to achieve” Zhu Xi’ s moral self-discipline,which includes four aspects: reaching out to things and limiting principles, living with respect and self-restraint,striving for learning, and advancing both knowledge and action. The fifth part is the inspiration for contemporary school moral education, including four aspects: improving intellectual moral education and cultivating subjective rational consciousness, improving emotional education and cultivating subjective awareness of awesomeness, guiding them to aim high when they learn and attaching importance to moral practice and promoting the formation of subjective habits. The cultivation of moral self-discipline consciousness and the cultivation of self-discipline ability have become the inevitable trend and important practical proposition of the current development of moral education,as well as the unshakable responsibility and mission entrusted to educators in this era.Zhu Xi’ s concept of moral self-discipline is deeply rooted in Chinese cultural tradition, providing a new perspective and thinking for the current shift of moral education from heteronomy to self-discipline,and providing a mirror and inspiration for relevant educators to promote the development of moral education. |
